Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach students utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

Establish and maintain standard of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interpret the school program.

Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing how to help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.

Maintain professional competence through staff development activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.

Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.

Supervise students in and out of classroom activities during the assigned workday.

Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing policies.

Participate in curriculum development programs as required.

Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Qualification Requirements:

Experience:
Required:

BA/BS degree from a college or university

Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

Preferred:

Additional training and/or education

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheet and forms Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
