Full Job Description SUMMARY:
The job of a Language Acquisition Assistant was established for the purpose/s of assisting in the assessment and instruction of students' English language acquisition from their native language and fluency in the English language, in addition to administering tests.
QUALIFICATIONS
: High school diploma or its equivalent. Must understand, speak, read and write English. Basic knowledge of additional languages (Arabic, Vietnamese, Albanian, Bengali) preferred. Ability to work with students is required. All Language Acquisition Assistants must meet one of the following qualifications: Preferred at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 credit hours), or obtained an Associate's Degree or higher
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Guides students in individual or small group specialized English language instruction for the purpose of fostering student success. Implements, under the supervision of the English Language teacher, instructional programs (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving the student's academic success through a defined course of study. Performs record keeping (e.g. student work log, etc.) for the purpose of compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Supports ELL students with written and oral communication (e.g. attending parent-teacher conferences) for the purpose of developing English comprehension and assisting in communication to foster students' success. Participates in district in-services for the purpose of compliance with local, state and federal requirements. Maintains regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the district. Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in their service to EL students. Completes other duties as assigned to support EL students.
