Immediately Job Description Position Summary The High School English II and AP Seminar Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, rigorous, and standards-based instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and College Board AP Seminar framework. The teacher will foster critical thinking, analytical reading, academic writing, research, communication, and presentation skills while preparing students for college and career readiness. The teacher will create a student-centered learning environment that promotes inquiry, collaboration, and academic excellence. Responsibilities include teaching English II courses focused on literary analysis and composition, as well as AP Seminar courses emphasizing research, argumentation, evidence-based writing, and oral presentations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Responsibilities Teach English II courses aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Teach AP Seminar in accordance with College Board curriculum requirements and expectations. Develop and implement lesson plans that support: Literary analysis Informational text analysis Research and inquiry Argumentative and analytical writing Public speaking and presentations Critical thinking and collaboration Differentiate instruction to address diverse learning styles, abilities, and student needs. Integrate instructional technology and digital learning resources into daily instruction. Prepare students for End-of-Course (EOC) assessments and AP Seminar performance tasks and exams. AP Seminar Responsibilities Guide students through independent and collaborative research projects. Teach students to evaluate and synthesize multiple perspectives and sources. Facilitate student development of evidence-based arguments and presentations. Prepare students for: Individual Research Reports (IRR) Team Multimedia Presentations (TMP) Individual Written Arguments (IWA) End-of-Course AP Seminar Exam Maintain compliance with College Board AP policies and instructional expectations. Classroom Environment & Student Support Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and academically focused classroom environment. Encourage student engagement, intellectual curiosity, and respectful discourse. Monitor student progress and provide timely academic feedback. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, counselors, and administrators regarding student performance and needs. Support student growth in organization, time management, and academic responsibility. Assessment & Data Analysis Develop and administer formative and summative assessments. Analyze student performance data to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress. Participate in school-wide data analysis and instructional improvement initiatives. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), department meetings, and school improvement initiatives. Attend required professional development related to English Language Arts instruction and Advanced Placement coursework. Maintain compliance with North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and College Board requirements. Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and student achievement. Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Literature, Communications, or related field. Valid North Carolina teaching license in English Language Arts (9-12) or eligibility for licensure. Strong knowledge of literary analysis, composition, grammar, and research instruction. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching high school English courses. Experience teaching Advanced Placement courses, particularly AP Seminar or AP Capstone programs. Training or certification through College Board AP Summer Institutes preferred. Experience with inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies. Familiarity with educational technology platforms and digital instructional tools. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to design rigorous and engaging instructional experiences. Ability to foster critical thinking, academic discussion, and analytical writing. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to support students in long-term research and presentation projects. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high academic expectations for all students. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise classroom activities for extended periods. Ability to operate computers and instructional technology equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats. Terms of Employment Ten-month position in accordance with North Carolina teacher salary schedule and local board policies. AP Summer Institute attendance and AP training may be required. Additional duties may include tutoring, curriculum development, or extracurricular sponsorship opportunities.Position Type:
