Principal/Designee Position Summary:
The Grades 7-12 ELA Teacher designs and delivers comprehensive literature and writing instruction aligned with the NYS Next Generation English Language Arts Learning Standards. The Health Sciences Charter School teacher guides students through complex text analysis, diverse literary genres, argumentative and informational writing, and research methodologies. The ELA teacher fosters a culturally responsive environment that supports all learners, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners, equipping all students with the advanced communication skills necessary to pass the NYS Regents Exam and succeed in post-secondary pathways.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Lesson Design Design and implement rigorous unit plans that integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills utilizing The Science of Reading and Learning Select and teach a diverse balance of contemporary, and multicultural literature, poetry, and informational texts. Scaffold complex texts to ensure accessibility for diverse learners while maintaining high academic standards. Instructional Delivery & Literacy Development Deliver targeted instruction in essay writing, textual analysis, grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary acquisition through Explicit Direct Instruction. Facilitate an active creative learning environment with student-led discussions, Socratic seminars, and debates to build critical thinking and verbal communication skills. Incorporate digital literacy and media analysis, teaching students to evaluate information sources critically and encourage critical dialogue to support their depth of understanding. Assessment & Exam Preparation Prepare high school students for the NYS Regents Examination in English Language Arts through targeted skill-building and practice. Utilize formative and summative assessments to track and analyze student writing growth and reading comprehension levels. Provide detailed, actionable feedback on student writing to guide continuous revision and deep learning. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities Collaborate with Special Education (ICT) and
ENL/ESOL
teachers to co-plan and support inclusive classroom populations. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and grade-level teams to vertically align literacy curricula. Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians regarding student academic progress and literacy growth.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in
English Language Arts Certification:
Valid state teaching credential with an endorsement or certification as a Grades 7-12 Education Teacher. Experience
  • Minimum of [2-5] years of successful classroom teaching experience, with a proven track record of improving student learning outcomes. Technical Skills Data & Assessment Systems
  • Experienced with student information systems (SIS) and data analytics platforms (e.g., mCLASS, Renaissance Star, NWEA MAP, PowerSchool) for tracking benchmarks and growth. Learning Management Systems (LMS) Skilled in navigating and managing instructional workflows via Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology. Collaboration & Reporting Tools
  • Proficient in productivity suites (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office) for generating compliance reports, tracking data trends.
Skills and Competencies Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards. Skill in using data to inform instructional decisions and program improvements. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
