Position Summary All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.Key responsibilities include:
Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standards Evaluating and assessing student learning outcomes Providing student support, mentoring, and academic advising Developing curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materials Assisting with program reviews and accreditation-related activities Planning and executing program-related events Attending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field Additional responsibilities include: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies Service on assigned committees and task forces Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends This posting outlines qualifications, experience, and skills but is not limited to the full specifications and responsibilities that is stated within the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in English or a related discipline. Successful Candidate must have or must possess: Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) Preferred Qualifications Two (2) or more years of teaching-related college-level courses and a minimum of 48+ credits. Two (2) or more years of experience teaching First Year Composition, and Developmental Composition at the college level. Experience teaching a range of courses, from developmental to college-level composition, as well as writing courses. Experience supporting non-English language learners. Experience teaching in community college. Bilingual in English/Spanish. Experience teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, and fully online), including use of an LMS such as Canvas or Blackboard.
