An English or Language Arts Teacher teaches English in elementary to secondary schools. Focuses on English, writing, composition, literature, and critical analysis. In elementary school, language arts classes focus on basic reading, writing and linguistic / communication skills. In middle school, the English curriculum evolves and expands to include more complicated reading comprehension, such as fiction, poetry and essays. Salaried-Exempt Position Summary:
The EL Teacher supports students in acquiring English through the language development approach. EL Teachers create lesson plans that target specific ELP standards based on the student's proficiency level and grade level and monitor their progress to promote their language acquisition. The role also creates and implements activities and lessons based on ELP Standards for the language development of EL students. EL Teachers provide targeted instructional minutes for the EL program they are enrolled in per the requirements established by ADE.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend meetings with parents, Special Student Services Coordinator, parents, teachers Attend grade- or subject-level meetings to help plan integrated EL instruction Collaborate with grade-level teachers to determine students' strengths and weaknesses for lesson planning Monitor students' progress through quarterly reports Create and maintain a schedule for targeted instruction time with PEA and grade-level teachers Collaborate with grade-level teachers to identify and implement any accommodations necessary for the student to access the curriculum Participate in professional development opportunities at the academy and network level Create lesson plans aligned with ELP standards Collaborate with Special Student Services Coordinator on student testing results Additional duties and projects as assigned.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required Valid/Current Texas Teacher Certification required Valid Texas Bilingual Endorsement or ESL Supplemental and Generalist/Core Content Area Certification that covers grade levels assigned is required
Required/Preferred Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience, 3 years preferred
Required/Preferred Skills:
Proficient in the use of technology Great Hearts teachers must also demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts and a commitment to diversity Previous experience working with
English Language Learners Physical Functions:
Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately. US Work Authorization required Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
Travel required:
