Job Description

The College of the Marshall Islands (CMI) is a community college located in the central Pacific Ocean six degrees north of the Equator on the Majuro Atoll. Majuro is the nation's capital and has a population of approximately 28,000 people. The College enrolls 1000 students each fall and spring semester with the semester full-time equivalent number of students approximately 800. CMI is the national college of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and seeks to be the role model for community colleges in the Pacific region. The College is now seeking a passionate Developmental Education educator willing to relocate to our small and remote location where his/her teaching and learning expertise is greatly valued by a developing population with a distinct Pacific culture. The successful candidate will teach Developmental English courses in the combination of listening & speaking, and reading & writing in an ESL environment. The selected candidate may also teach the First Year College Experience course. Other responsibilities will include departmental and college service, academic advising and coaching, and outcomes assessment. There are also opportunities to develop and shape a new course in the area of expertise and to do research. Essential Function 1: Teaching 15 credits per semester. Writing syllabi and lesson plans. Conducting courses according to the scheduled time. Teaching to the required outcomes. Evaluating student work. Reporting student grade Assessing student learning outcomes according to the institutional schedule and departmental requirement Create Moodle version of courses assigned Essential Function 2: Essential Function 2. Student advising Being available to students during the registration and early registration periods. Provide 5 office hours/week dedicated to meeting student advisees Aiding assigned students in selecting the correct courses to meet their goals at CMI Essential Function 3: Participating in on-going assessment and alignment of courses, programs, and services . Assessing outcomes for one SLO per course per academic year Participating in the writing of the Developmental Education Program Review Pan and Report. Reviewing outlines in areas of expertise and revising as necessary. Essential Function 4: Providing services in support of the ongoing advancement of the Developmental Education Department and the institution as a whole. Participating in service committees. Attending required departmental and Dean with faculty meetings. Engagement in department initiatives for improved outcomes
