Job Summary:
The English Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in English Language Arts to students in grades 9-12. This includes instruction in literature, writing, grammar, and communication skills. The teacher fosters a supportive classroom culture, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and integrates critical thinking, analysis, and real-world application into daily instruction.Essential Duties:
Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver high-quality instruction in English courses according to Virginia Department of Education standards Develop lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and Rise Academy's instructional framework Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and public speaking Integrate culturally responsive and relevant texts that reflect diverse perspectives Utilize data-driven instruction to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies Classroom Environment & Culture Establish a structured, inclusive, and academically focused classroom environment Promote student curiosity, collaboration, and scientific inquiry Maintain clear expectations for behavior, safety, and academic integrity Student Support & Development Provide academic interventions and enrichment opportunities Support students in developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress Professional Responsibilities Participate in weekly staff meetings, professional development, and school initiatives Engage in Rise Academy's performance evaluation process (observations, feedback, and goal-setting) Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and assessments Uphold all school policies, including lab safety and student supervision protocols Community & Mission Alignment Model and reinforce Rise Academy's core values: Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence Contribute to a positive school culture and participate in school-wide events Serve as a mentor and role model for studentsRequired Qualifications:
Master's degree in English, Secondary Education, Literature, or a closely related field required At least 3-5 years of teaching experience at the high school level preferred Experience teaching multiple English disciplines (e.g., Literature, Composition, Grammar, Rhetoric, Creative Writing) strongly preferred Qualified to teach Dual Enrollment Demonstrated success improving student achievement in reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and critical analysis Familiarity with integrating technology and writing-based instructional tools into teaching and learning Preferred Virginia teaching license or eligibility Experience teaching multiple science subjects across grade levels Experience with lab-based instruction and safety procedures Title 1 or public school experience Background in differentiated instruction and data-driven practices Compensation details: 49701-52251.54 Yearly Salary PId6afad1ff4d0-30137-40432752Similar jobs in Richmond, VA
