Job Description

Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts (ELA) teacher for the 2026/2027 academic year at Oakville Middle School/High School. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while fostering a love for literature and language. This full-time position requires a commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse needs of all learners. Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with state standards and curriculum guidelines. Teach a range of ELA courses, including literature, composition, and language arts, to students in grades 6-12. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement. Assess student progress through various methods, including tests, projects, and presentations, and provide constructive feedback. Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and initiatives that enhance student learning. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding student performance and classroom activities. Support students in developing critical thinking and analytical skills through discussions, writing assignments, and group activities. Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning. Uphold the values and mission of Oakville MS/HS while promoting respect, responsibility, and academic integrity among students. Requirements Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field. Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts for middle and high school levels. Proven experience teaching ELA at the middle or high school level, with a strong understanding of curriculum development preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and engage students. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Knowledge of current educational practices and trends in English Language Arts education. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to the overall success of the school community.
