POSITION OVERVIEW

Visualizing Abolition Studies (VAST) Lecturer Pool Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $9,986-$13,420 (based on salary points 5-15). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year. Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned. Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2026 through fall quarter 2027. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment. Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Visualizing Abolition Studies Certificate Program in the Humanities Division at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach one or more courses for the divisionally sponsored Visualizing Abolition Studies (VAST) Certificate program. Under the direction of the VAST program director, the selected candidates will be appointed to teach in one or more of the following areas; Black speculations, Black geographies and the imperative of abolition, psychology and law, narrative of incarceration and abolition, law, prisons and popular culture, special topics in film and digital media production. Candidates should be willing to teach both large lecture courses and seminars, courses that include a large discussion component, and they must be able to deliver on-line instruction if the need arises. Applicants with expertise in critical prison studies, psychology, legal studies, digital media production, and critical race studies are strongly encouraged to apply. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties. Internal candidates will be given priority consideration. The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

A minimum of three years' teaching experience at the college or university level.
