Latin American History/Latin America Studies - Guest Faculty Position Fall 2026

Non-Tenure Track Job Description Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a full-time guest faculty position in Latin America History or in Latin American Studies, with a focus on History, for the Fall 2026 semester. The candidate will teach two courses in the fall on any topics on Latin American History or Latin American Studies that complement our existing curriculum. We seek candidates who could bring new geographical, methodological, thematic, or pedagogical approaches and who could help students understand the region today in a historical context. Sarah Lawrence is a co-educational liberal arts college with a unique pedagogy, and candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to the development of the research, writing and analytical skills of their students. Lecture courses (capped at 45 students) contain either two weekly lectures and bi-weekly "group conferences" (15 students at a time) or one longer weekly lecture and weekly "group conferences" (15 students at a time). Faculty teaching seminars (capped at 15 students) are required to meet individually with students biweekly for "conference," which entails guiding the student through a semester-long independent research project.
Application materials must include:
cover letter, CV, course descriptions for three possible courses, a sample syllabus, and names and contact information for two references who will be contacted for a letter of recommendation upon the submission of the candidate's application. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. This is an in-person teaching appointment, with the expectation that the appointed individual will teach on campus for the duration of the contract period. Compensation listed for this position is on a per-course basis, contingent on teaching experience. Required Qualifications Applicants should either be ABD or hold a Ph.D. in History or a related interdisciplinary program and have prior teaching experience.
