Alexandria, VA Job Details Full-time 16 hours ago Qualifications Working with post-secondary students Academic research projects Scientific publications Student mentoring Working with graduate students Publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals Teaching religious studies Working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds Online instruction Classroom Teaching Full Job Description Employment Opportunity Professor of New Testament Open rank, full-time, tenured or tenure-track appointment, beginning July 1, 2027 Virginia Theological Seminary, a seminary of The Episcopal Church, invites applications for a full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty position in Mew Testament. The successful candidate will teach 15 credits annually, comprised of a range of courses for Master's- and Doctoral-level students at introductory and advanced levels. These include a two-semester sequence of New Testament introduction, courses in biblical Greek, and upper-level courses that situate New Testament texts within their literary, historical, and theological contexts. There are likely to be opportunities to teach residential intensives and online courses at our affiliated partner institution, The General Theological Seminary. In addition to teaching, all faculty at VTS are expected to engage in a robust publishing program, contribute to the seminary's lifelong learning offerings, participate in daily worship and shared lunch, advise students, and share in the broader intellectual ad formational life of the seminary community.
Qualifications include:
Commitment to Christ and God's mission in the world, and to theological education and formation; A Doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in New Testament, conferred before June 30, 2027, with expertise in a focused field within the discipline; Competence in teaching New Testament at the Master's level; Evidence of or capacity for scholarly publication and research; In line with the seminary's Covenant, demonstrate a special strength or capacity for teaching and mentoring underrepresented students; Openness to teaching in online and face-to-face contexts. The Seminary's primary mission is to form Christians for lay or ordained leadership and service in the ministry of the Church. Out of its evangelical, Catholic, and missionary tradition we seek to prepare our students as servants of Jesus Christ to equip the people of God for their vocation and ministry in the world.
