The SparkLab Assistant will support this mission by using the CIS Model to support students as they progress through various in-person, blended, and virtual SparkNC learning experiences. They will assist the SparkLab leader in providing encouragement to students as they work through learning modules to discover careers in high-tech fields like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and machine learning, software development, and computer systems engineering. Must Haves:
Creative problem-solving: How do you engage students in hard-to-understand concepts? How do you create "aha" moments with a group of students? As a SparkLab Assistant, you'll use your creative problem-solving abilities to engage and produce rich discussions, facilitate and deliver learning experiences, and coordinate the technical components of learning experiences.
Communication skills:
We all learn differently. As a SparkLab Assistant, you must sharpen your communication skills daily to ensure you're having an impact on your students' learning.
Academic Experience:
The successful candidate will have experience providing support to middle and high school students. Previous experience as a TA or teacher intern is a plus. Demonstrated passion and commitment to students, families, and the community. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support regular communication with parents and families Tech-savvy and comfortable troubleshooting technical equipment Ability to perform required project tasks independently A successful SparkLab Assistant will: Support a safe and supportive learning environment with routines and structures that align with CIS values and foster student engagement. Encourage students to set goals and develop their passions. Assist in facilitating and delivering learning experiences tailored to the unique needs and interests of students. Be an energetic, dependable individual with a desire to develop the durable skills students need to prepare them for a wide array of postsecondary opportunities. This role would be a strong match for someone who: Has experience working with youth, especially in educational or mentoring environments. Can creatively connect with middle and high school students. Is passionate about equitable access to education and opportunities in tech. Is excited about building something new and collaborative. The SparkLab Assistant should be experienced and knowledgeable in middle & high school education and the developmentally appropriate behaviors for students.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree, preferred but not required.
Experience:
Two or more years of experience with middle and/or high school-aged individuals, preferred but not required. Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing needs and priorities Experience with, and dedication to, creating and refining engaging experiences in learner-centered environments Familiarity with technology and with the use of technology in designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences Experience with UDL, Design Thinking, and/or Project-Based Learning Want to stand out?
