This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support by serving as a Teaching Assistant for four undergraduate courses (or the equivalent) each semester, spending approximately nine hours per week assisting with each class. During the semester breaks when no departmental courses are in session, the staff person will be assigned to departmental projects which may include assisting with faculty research projects. This is a 12-month staff position with the option to convert to a 10-month staff position (August - May) if desired. TAs 4 courses per semester (approximately 9-10 hrs/week/course and a total of 37.5 hours per week). This role will begin no later than August 1, 2026, with the option to start as early as June or July if preferred.
Core responsibilities include:
Seek out and attend training for teaching assistants, such as the workshops provided by the Eberly Center Balance workload and coordinate among courses so that TA activities are completed within the 37.5 hour work week. Gain proficiency in course readings, materials, and concepts Contribute to creation of exams and assignments, under supervision of faculty Grade essay exams, assignments, and term papers using grading rubric provided by faculty Hold office hours and review sessions to help students with course concepts Attend class sessions and assist faculty member with classroom activities such as breakout groups Use the online learning system (Canvas) to make readings and materials available to students and to maintain the grade book When time permits, attend lab meetings and colloquia to gain a deeper understanding of current research in Social & Decision Sciences. Work on departmental projects as assigned. These might include administrative tasks such as organizing files or office contents, event management such as assisting with graduation events, and research assistance such as processing data files or preparing study materials. Problem-solving and reasoning skills Analytical skills Oral and written communication skills
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Psychology or another social science field required Coursework in judgment and decision making or behavioral economics and previous experience as a teaching assistant is a plus Preferred research skills include undergraduate research experience, coursework in statistics or econometrics, coding skills in R or Python, and exposure to computational modeling. A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
