Job Description

Internal Medicine Residency Program Summary Of Chief Resident Responsibilities Location:
The University of California Riverside School of Medicine (UCR SOM) Internal Medicine program started in July 2021 and has continued accreditation with commendation from ACGME. It has 55 residents currently, comprising of 45 categorical and 10 prelims. The program admits 15 categorical and 10 prelim residents every year. It is based at St Bernadine medical center in San Bernardino, CA. St. Bernardine Medical center is a 342 bed non-profit acute care hospital with the latest technology and advanced services from family care to cardiac surgery.

- An Internal Medicine Chief Resident is an individual who has distinguished him/herself by embodying exceptional clinical & leadership skills, demonstrated over the course of his/her residency training, and is respected for his/herclinical judgment, teaching skills, and ability to work collaboratively with his/her peers and faculty. A Chief Resident serves as a role-model, peer mentor, and advocate for the Internal Medicine residents. - The PGY4 Internal Medicine Chief Resident position requires a commitment to fulfilling academic and administrative responsibilities in addition to clinical teaching responsibilities. - The Chief Resident will have the opportunity to receive mentoring to promote teaching as well as interpersonal & clinical skill development and development in providing feedback and formative assessments.
Essential Job Duties:
PGY4 Chief Resident Responsibilities 1. Leadership Serve as a role model of professionalism. Serve as a source of peer mentorship/support. Support any residents who are struggling academically or personally. Conflict Resolution Serve as a liaison between the residents & program leadership via Monthly resident meetings Monthly meetings with program leadership Meetings with program director every 1-2 weeks, and as needed. 2. Academic Organize & implement the noon lecture curriculum. Prepare for and present at Morbidity & Mortality Conferences ( at least 4 per year) Help to organize the GME Resident Research Day 3. Administrative Maybe asked to serve on IM/GME Committees as appointed. Graduate Medical Education Committee Program Evaluation Committee Resident Quality & Safety Council Wellbeing Committee Oversees Resident Participation in GME & Hospital Committees Participate in Recruitment Activities Attend Residency Fairs/Open Houses as appointed. Help organize any in-person Welcome Events Participate in Informational Sessions with Residency Applicants (in- person or virtual) Assist the Program Director in creating & maintaining the Night Float Schedule (Days Off) CU Schedule (Days Off) Resident Replacement Schedule, including calling residents in as needed.
Essential Job Duties:
Additional Chief Resident Responsibilities 1. Academic Moderate Morning Report Moderate Journal Club Work individually with residents PRIOR to their Noon Lecture presentations. Journal Club Senior Lecture Work individually with residents in preparing abstracts, poster presentations, and publications. Present at Noon Conference Lead Continuity Clinic Didactics Serve on the Clinical Competency Committee 2. Administrative Assist the Program Director in creating the schedule for the upcoming academic year.
