Supervisor Title Director of Emergency Medical Program Location All Locations Job Description - Summary The position of part-time instructor is an integral part of education of Surry Community College's Emergency Medical Program. This position will assist with the instruction of students from Medical Responders to Paramedics in both didactic and psycho-motor aspects. They will work closely with the Coordinator of the Emergency Medical Program to provide up to date knowledge and skills as falls within the National Standards and the standards of North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NC OEMS). They may also assist the Coordinator and/or the program Director with community service events and build working relationships with other EMS services. The instructor will also be an essential part of improving both the growth and quality of the Emergency Medical Program.
NOTE:
The purpose of a continuous recruitment posting is to build a pool of interested applicants should the need for additional adjuncts arise due to student enrollment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
I. TEACHING
a. Conducting in a professional manner all class hours as assigned by the course schedule and academic calendar b. Creating correct, professional syllabi c. Creating, administering, and accurately assessing substantive assignments and activities that support the college's general education requirements and Quality Enhancement Plan d. Meeting classes on time and for the full duration of the published class time e. Supporting and following college policies and procedures f. Assuming reasonable responsibility for security, maintenance and inventory of assigned equipment and supplies g. Preparing and submitting accurate and precise pay and attendance rosters, student grades, and other assigned documents when due h. Teaching initial EMS Courses and continuing education at the ALS and BLS levels i. Organizing and preparing scenarios for psycho-motor skills evaluations j. Promoting EMS courses within Surry Community College's Region k. Assuring equipment and supplies are in good working order, are properly used then returned to the appropriate location, and reporting any deficiencies to either the Director or Coordinator l. Maintain a clean and safe work area. LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write as applicable to subject area
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and/or complaints from students, internal staff, or members of the college community
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, internal staff, or members of the college community
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as those needed for the EMS profession including but not limited to permutations, logical equations, algebraic equations
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information OTHER SKILLS and
ABILITIES
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system Required Qualifications
  • NC Paramedic Certification or Certification equal to or higher than courses taught
  • Minimum of one-year experience within the field in which you will instruct Preferred Qualifications
  • NC OEMS Level I EMS Instructor at ALS level
  • Associates Degree in Emergency Medical Services or Associates Degree with EMS experience Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Certification in specific area of instruction Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
