Job Description

DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Assist and work at the direction of a Nursing Faculty member. Employ a range of suitable strategies to foster student learning, develop and maintain required records, and promptly assess student performance. Responsibilities may include teaching nights, and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Supervision of the assigned group(s) of students in the clinical and laboratory settings. This supervision shall include but is not limited to the following: Prepare appropriate plans, materials, and learning activities for students to achieve the learning outcomes of each educational session. Orient students to the clinical unit/learning environment. Select appropriate learning experiences for the assigned student group(s), i.e., client/patient assignments, activities, and planning clinical conferences. Observation of the students' performance, guidance of the students' performance, review of procedures and principles as necessary, on-the-spot instruction as appropriate. Evaluation of students' performance in writing as required and verbally, as needed, on an individual basis, including written feedback on but not limited to the following: Plans of care and other assignments. Documenting observations and/or any appropriate incidents which may occur during the learning experience. Consulting with students individually and/or in groups to: review and/or evaluate progression towards learning outcomes and identify teaching strategies that could be reinforced or adjusted. Utilize the established evaluation criteria for measuring student learning. Upon evaluating such performance for each instructional period. Forward all required documentation of student progress by the date due. Maintain any student records appropriate to regular college procedure and assessment practice. Use evaluation forms as designated to obtain evaluation feedback regarding performance. Maintain a cooperative, positive relationship with the staff on any unit of the healthcare facility assigned to facilitate the optimum learning environment for the students. Maintain effective, on-going communication with the Lead Instructor (and/or Director of Nursing Programs if appropriate) concerning student progress and/or concerns. Attend all meetings as scheduled. Arrange and complete an orientation with the clinical site unit manager to learn the assigned clinical unit and meet the mandatory requirements of the clinical site. Submit appropriate materials as required. All official college transcripts should be sent to Human Resources. Effectively participate in the affairs of the College as necessary to develop and maintain a strong and vibrant instructional institution. Contribute ideas and energies to cooperate and actively participate as a team member to carry out activities of the department. Continuously improve teaching effectiveness through professional growth. Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information. Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of :
Nursing practice, nursing curriculum, adult learning strategies, nursing education best practices, remediation principles, and performance improvement. Ability to : Coordinate, organize, plan, and problem solve. Uses "big picture approach". Facilitates change to achieve desired outcomes with care to prevent the least negative impact possible. Develops strong collegial relationships with educational partners. Focuses energy to improve student outcomes. Skill in : Nursing practice, oral and written communication, interpersonal relationship management, and project management.
QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: Master's Degree in Nursing preferred or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; and a minimum of two-years nursing education experience desired. Two-years of clinical pediatric nursing experience required, five or more preferred. Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College's policies and procedures and applicable laws. Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
