Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences:
First-Year Experience Location Norman, Oklahoma Open Date May 18, 2026 Description Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a renewable term, 9 month faculty member for the general education course "Gateway to Health Disciplines". This course is part of a suite of courses that meet the General Education Core V requirement: First Year Experience. A first-year experience course is required for all incoming first-year and transfer students at the University of Oklahoma. Gateway to the Health Disciplines (CAS 1583) introduces students to the complex and collaborative world of health, helping them explore the wide variety of roles that contribute to patient and community health, from clinical professionals and healthcare administrators to public health experts. The course is organized around three interconnected modules: The Patient Journey, The Cost of Health, and The Promotion of Health and Prevention of Disease. This design provides students with a systems-level understanding of how the U.S. health ecosystem functions. Students will examine how a wide range of factors shape health outcomes and will engage with real-world challenges through case studies, data interpretation, and structured reflection activities. Throughout the semester, students will also develop essential professional skills, including critical thinking, evidence-based problem solving, and both oral and written communication, preparing them for the collaborative realities of a career in the health disciplines. Successful candidates for this position will have a commitment to excellence in teaching and engagement with students. The selected applicant will be appointed as renewable term faculty. The term of the initial appointment is five years, pending annual performance review. Faculty who meet the appropriate qualification requirements are eligible to be considered for renewal of their appointment. The regular teaching load is 4 courses per semester (4:4), or equivalent as determined by programmatic need and enrollment trends. The distribution of effort for this position will be 80% teaching and 20% service. Anticipated start in August 2026. Qualifications Required:
Masters or Doctoral Degree in a health-related field (e.g. MPH, MHA, MA, MS, PhD, DrPH) or closely related field from an accredited institution. Experience using a learning management system (e.g. Canvas) preferably in an instructional context. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, preferably with undergraduate student populations. Candidates should have a conferred masters or doctoral degree at the time of appointment.
Preferred:
Demonstrated effectiveness in cultivating enriching discussions and spurring critical thinking among students Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging first-year and transfer students acclimating to collegiate standards. Documented effectiveness in teaching at the post-secondary level.
