Academic and Faculty Affairs Adjunct College of Health Professions MBU Advertising Summary:
The PhD Program in Health-Related Sciences (HRS) in the College of Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an adjunct instructor for ALHP 781, Doctoral Seminar. This required course supports professional development in the health sciences through skill-building in interdisciplinary communication, teaching, and knowledge translation, while engaging students with current collaborative research. Students also develop key academic materials, including a curriculum vitae and NIH biosketch. Adjunct faculty are expected to become familiar with the PhD curriculum and comprehensive examination procedures and to participate in at least two virtual PhD faculty meetings per year.

The HRS program is a hybrid, distance-based PhD program designed for working healthcare professionals. Instructional responsibilities include planning for and attending two on-campus sessions in Richmond, Virginia, and teaching five asynchronous, two-week online modules delivered via the Canvas platform. Course content builds on students' prior knowledge in research methods, healthcare theory, and instructional design, with an emphasis on professional skills and experiences not typically addressed in formal coursework. Throughout the course, students explore current health sciences research across the university and community settings. Duties & Responsibilities:
Attending and planning for two on-campus sessions located in Richmond, Virginia. Teaching five asynchronous, two-week online modules delivered via Canvas. Participate in a minimum of two PhD faculty meetings (virtual) each year.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Earned PhD in health-related field. Strong oral and written communications skills as demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications and grants. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a desire to work with health sciences PhD students. Prior experience teaching in an academic institution, conducting research, and working within community-based settings. Preferred Qualifications Previous work in course design and the use of Canvas.
Salary Range:
$8,755/3
