Job Description

Alabama State University, Division of Student Affairs, invites applications to fill the position of VA School Certifying Officer. Under the guidance of the Director of Accessibility and Veterans Affairs, the selected candidate will manage and support institutional processes, as directed by the United State Veterans Administration, and keep the director informed of the enrollment statuses of Veterans and VA eligible beneficiaries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the day-to-day operations for the Veterans Affairs Unit with the Office of Accessibility and Veterans Affairs Assist in the implementation and execution of the strategic and short term plans of the Veterans Affairs Unit Develop Standard Operating Procedures that support VA regulations and ease of execution by the Veterans Affairs Unit Report enrollment certification to the VA timely Maintain and prepare all records for inspection by the VA and ensure records are secured properly Prepare monthly transaction reports and apprise the director of any internal/external issues or problems that may impact Veterans Initiate and maintain records for all VA students, in accordance with state, federal, and university regulations Organize and monitor both internal and external entities that may request academic verification of students, including those that want to ensure that approved program curriculum and majors are being followed Monitor students' Satisfactory Academic Progress toward graduation, and report to the proper personnel, and suspensions, dismissals, or terminations timely Stay current and up-to-date on current and pending VA regulations and benefits, while assisting beneficiaries in applying for VA benefits and/or inquiring about resolutions of payment Maintain working relationship with ASU's VA Educational Representative Read, maintain and disseminate using multiple communication mediums, VA and ELR bulletins Attend VA professional development opportunities and provide training to office staff Represent the Veterans Affairs Unit on various university, planning and policy-writing committees, and within the local, regional and national communities when requested by the university Perform other duties as assigned Bachelor's degree with three years of experience in higher education, college or university setting, (university registrar or university admission) or military service, available to work weekends, evenings, and be available to travel as needed, are required.
