Salary Information:
Salary will be commensurate with experience; with a range of $90,000 - $110,000. This position is eligible for benefits (medical, dental, vision), generous PTO and holiday schedule, 401(k) savings plan with school match, higher education tuition reimbursement, and JSerra tuition discount of 50% off base tuition for each dependent child or legal guardian designated child who attends JSerra. Description:
The Dean of Students is responsible for all attendance, discipline, and safety procedures including but limited to those specifically listed below. The Dean collaborates with school staff to ensure that standards and practices are aligned to support positive student behavioral outcomes and to maintain appropriate student discipline. The Dean provides behavioral support services to students. The Dean of Students reports directly to the principal and is a member of the Administrative Team. Responsibilities Proactively communicates with parents to inform and support successful resolution of student behavior issues Supervises student attendance. In this capacity, the
Dean:
o Supervises daily student attendance o Issues tardy and/or readmit actions for students o Checks unexcused/missed periods and/or full-day absences o Contacts and communicates with parents regarding absentees o Maintains accurate attendance records o Sends attendance letters in accordance with school policy Enforces the student code of conduct. In this capacity, the
Dean:
o Enforces dress and grooming regulations o Supervises student conduct during the day, including student driving and parking on campus o Oversees all ordinary discipline o Oversees suspension of students as well as disciplinary probation o Supervises the detention program (before/after school and weekends) o Supervises student conduct at athletic events and all extracurricular activities inside and outside of school hours o Recommends to the Principal the convening of the Discipline Review Committee for matters of disciplinary review or dismissal o Maintains accurate discipline records in the Dean's Office Assigns supervision assignments. In this capacity, the
Dean:
o Assigns and monitors supervision (lunch, before/after school) o Works with the Vice Principal for Student Affairs and the Director of Security to coordinate supervision of school events Works with teachers to mediate parent/student communication regarding behavior issues that occur in or outside the classroom Ability to successfully engage in conflict resolution and calmly manage contentious situations Work with staff to enforce professional dress code policy Counsels students in resolving personal, academic, and behavior problems; when appropriate, refers students to school counselor Meets regularly with new and continuing faculty to assist with the implementation of effective classroom management plans Makes locker assignments each year and maintains accurate student locker information Oversees the registration of student vehicles Serve as a member of both the Discipline and Academic Review Committees Acts as liaison between the school and law enforcement and the neighboring communities Supervises lost and found Generates budget proposals and oversees expenditures for the Dean's Office Conducts annual orientation for new faculty and reviews briefings for continuing faculty on policies and procedures for attendance, behavior management, and supervision duties Conducts annual review of attendance code in the JSerra Parent-Student Handbook and makes recommendations for changes Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings including the weekly Planning Council Attends to any other assignments or responsibilities specified by the Principal Provides other general department duties as needed Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to assess situations and use judgement to apply logical and appropriate responses/outcomes that are consistent and suitable for both similar but also unique situations Must be knowledgeable and remain current and up-to-date on school issues, regulations pertaining to students, parents and staff and ensure school compliance with same Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly communicate guidelines, actions and outcomes to students, staff and patents Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and projects and meet critical deadlines Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in education, administration, psychology or equivalent field, Master's degree desirable or a valid California teaching credential authorizing K-12 service Minimum of (5) years' prior disciplinary experience in an educational or related business environment The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for this job.
