JOB DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director of Competitive Programs (EDCP) leads all aspects of the competitive club, including but not limited to strategic planning, financial management, personnel supervision, program delivery and community outreach. They are responsible for ensuring the club's mission is achieved, and that its programs are successful and sustainable. The EDCP reports directly to the Board of Directors (BOD) and with approval from the BOD, produces, updates and manages the strategic and operational plan and budget that reflects the long-term objectives of the club. The EDCP will be ultimately accountable for all aspects of the club's daily operations, both internal and external. They will be responsible for ensuring on-field activities and programs are effectively delivered to club members, while also managing finance, administrative operations, field and facility operations, volunteer resources, marketing, sponsorship and community outreach programs. This includes collaborating with the BOD, Technical Director, Directors of Coaching and staff to ensure the accomplishment of the club's strategic vision, mission, strategy and annual goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Club Programs
  • Work with the Technical Director to adapt the existing City SC curriculum and style of play to best align with our competitive teams.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to outline distinct strategies for both competitive and developmental programming and ensure that strategy is communicated and executed by coaches and staff.
  • Collaborate with Director of Recreation Programs and Technical Director to outline distinct strategies for developmental programming and ensure that strategy is communicated to recreational volunteer coaches.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to develop and implement programs with a heavy focus on measurable and visible goals and objectives. Track these goals and objectives and report them to the BOD.
  • Keep BOD well informed (on a timely basis) of significant issues affecting the development and delivery of programs and services.
  • Implement competitive player evaluation process.
  • Implement competitive tryout process, set tryout schedule, and staff tryout evaluators.
  • Work in conjunction with the Technical Director, Directors of Coaching and coaches to form competitive teams.
  • Implement strategies for continual growth of the competitive program to hit targets.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Recreation Programs to develop a comprehensive Recreation All-Stars Program and transition of teams and players into the competitive program.
  • Propose additional programming that may lead to expansion of our customer base and growth of the club.
  • Expand our current pathway for our highest-level players and teams by constant pursuit of inclusion in competitive leagues such as Girls Academy, GA Aspire, MLS Next, MLS Next II, ECNL and ECNL Regional League.
  • Become involved in technical and/or oversite committees for the leagues we participate in. Personnel Management
  • Work with and manage staff and coaches including but not limited to the Operations Manager, Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to ensure the smooth operation of the club's day-to-day activities.
  • Assist the BOD with the hiring of staff and coaches.
  • Develop and formalize club policies for hiring and promoting coaches and paid staff including hiring process, employment contracts, continuing education requirements, etc.
  • Implement formal personnel evaluation process.
  • Operate in compliance with all employment, anti-discrimination and record-keeping laws and requirements including state and local regulations.
  • Work with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to make sure all organizational tasks within the coaching program are completed and executed with professionalism.
  • Coordinate activities to leverage existing volunteer resources to achieve club mission and goals.
  • Work with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to ensure that monthly coach meetings are organized and professional.
  • Work with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to implement monthly in-person coach training sessions utilizing current teams in different age categories.
  • Ensure effective transition between years.
  • Utilize the competitive coaching staff to ensure a smooth and effective transition of recreational all-star teams and players to competitive teams.
  • Provide a one-day instructional class with recreational volunteer coaches to provide them with coaching techniques and tools that will help them efficiently use their time with the players.
  • Work with the Technical Director and Directors of Coaching to recruit new coaches from within the club (recreational coaches) and from outside the club when needed (level of coach or strategic recruit from our competition).
  • Organize and implement periodic staff events to improve comradery and foster a positive and inclusive work environment. Tournaments and Events
  • Work closely with the Tournament Director to ensure the growth, financial performance, and guest satisfaction of our tournaments continues to improve year-over-year.
  • Work closely with the Tournament Director to ensure a planning process is in place, communicated and highly visible to maximize opportunities for success.
  • Work with the Tournament Director to ensure the maximum number of reciprocals. Also, ensure that our coaches and teams are honoring our reciprocal agreements.
  • Work with the BOD, Director of Recreation Programs and staff to plan and execute a club kick-off event in August/September.
  • Ensure all financial aid families are volunteering to help with recreation Saturday game setup and take down as well as at club tournaments and events.
  • Collaborate with the BOD to involve community and business sponsors for club tournaments and events.
  • Help in the club booth at all City of San Marcos events. Fields, Facilities and Equipment
  • Ensure all teams (recreational and competitive) have adequate practice time and space.
  • Establish and execute a long-term plan for a primary use facility to host competitive training and games.
  • Evolve and formalize an inventory management system to track club owned equipment and implement a plan for appropriate replacement over time. Sponsorship, Scholarship and Community Outreach
  • Implement a strategic plan to increase the level of sponsorship and donation funds to the club by developing a sponsorship package and identifying potential donors.
  • Ensure that new and existing sponsors have their sponsor "benefits" delivered in a professional and timely fashion and that they achieve the expected value of their sponsorship.
  • Apply for additional funding sources such as grants, etc.
  • Manage club financial assistance and scholarship programs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the club, building relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Attend City of San Marcos events to foster relationships with key City personnel.
  • Propose and implement additional community outreach opportunities such as working with Boys and Girls programs, etc. Finance
  • Establish a budget and execute the daily operations of the Club (recreational and competitive) to ensure the overall financial health of the organization.
  • Manage and staff club approved programs within the approved budget. Marketing and Partner Development
  • Become familiar with and enforce the City SC branding requirements.
  • Manage and execute all marketing, communication and branding strategies.
  • Ensure effective use of information technology for club communications including appropriate platforms, integrated systems for online distribution and consistent and effective use of key club and member information.
  • Manage and enhance relations between the club, local organizations and businesses, and local governments.
  • Serve as liaison to local and national youth soccer organizations and other leagues our teams may compete in.
  • Identify and pursue partnership opportunities with like-minded organizations to expand the club's footprint in the area.
  • Identify and pursue partnerships with brands and/or corporations that present financial and strategic advantages to the club. Qualifications and Requirements
  • Minimum USSF "B" license, USSF "A" license preferred.
  • Passion for youth development and a commitment to providing a positive and inclusive experience for young athletes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and communication skills while managing or directly a successful youth sports club.
  • Experience that demonstrates strong club operations knowledge is desirable; preferably running soccer operations for another soccer entity (collegiate, non-profit, business operations for a soccer club, etc.). The focus should be on the business management and operational side (not solely on coaching)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of five to ten years of youth and/or adult sports program management and leadership experience. o Formulating and executing a fiscal year budget and multi-year financial plan. o Organizational development acumen that includes building cohesive teams and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Youth soccer coaching experience at all levels of competition (recreational, competitive, elite/academy).
  • College or professional playing experience is preferred.
  • Proven leader of people with the ability to build relationships with club families/customers, staff, board members, sponsors, local community and government.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans, analyze data, and assess program effectiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Success in recruiting, developing, managing, and retaining volunteers and staff.
  • Collaborative leadership style that inspires and motivates staff as well as club members.
  • Highly ethical character and personal integrity; ability to align staff and volunteers with club values.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekend events.
  • Willingness to coach if necessary to cover for a coach with a conflict.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in business, non-profit management, sports administration, or related management field.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
