POSITION TITLE
Dean of Students, Chippens Hill Middle School
DEPARTMENT

Building Principal/District Administrators SUMMARY:
The administrator selected for the position will support school operations at the K-8 level with responsibilities inclusive of, but not limited to supervision of the students and staff, the execution of the School Improvement Plan, and will be a key member in supporting climate and culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. Supervises and evaluates staff Works with individual teachers and grade level instructional improvement teams Implements the district's disciplinary guidelines Works with parents and members of the community Supervises the student transportation Supervises the cafeteria and the foods service program in the building Participates on system-wide committees Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities Participates in the staff selection process Chair 504 meetings Performs other duties as required by the building principal Oversight and evaluation of school counselors
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This administrator carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Board of Education policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
Intermediate Administrative Certification 092
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and concrete variables.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Has the knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications to use a computer for e-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel functions, databases and presentations.
REASONING ABILITY
Possesses the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
This administrator will have the ability to: Apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community Speak clearly and concisely in verbal communication Convey ideas clearly and concisely in written format Perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Administrator Standards

Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee.
