Until filled Greenwich Public Schools seeks an Assistant Dean of Students for Greenwich High School. The Assistant Dean of Students assists the Dean of Students and other GHS administrators in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and families.
This includes such responsibilities as:
creating and implementing student improvement plans; creating effective family, teacher, and student communications; supporting, encouraging, and mentoring students; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and families; and supporting and providing necessary resources to instructional leaders and staff for the effective implementation of student improvement plans.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assists the Dean of Students and other GHS administrators in ensuring student academic, social, and emotional development Implements Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and provides discipline for students who have difficulty following school rules and policies Works closely with House Administrator and Dean of Students to maintain appropriate communication with families and staff of students Works with members of the SAT/PRT to monitor and support students with histories of disciplinary and attendance infractions Reports patterns of disciplinary and attendance infractions in the House to the House Administrator Oversees enforcement of GHS Attendance Policy Leads responsibility for IEPs and PPT meetings for House-based students receiving special education services Leads responsibility for PST meetings for students in the House Maintains compliance with scheduling deadlines and team membership Provides quality control for IEPs Ensures compliance with IEP mandates (e.g., paperwork, services, progress monitoring) Chairs SAT/PRT meetings for students in the House Coordinates the development and monitoring of all MTSS plans Communicates SAT/PRT decisions and responsibilities to all teachers of relevant students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and best practices for students with emotional and behavioral needs Knowledge of state and federal laws pertainjing to education and special education Ability to develop, implement, and manage PBIS and student improvement plans Ability to operate, function with, and support a wide range of student strengths, needs, personalities, and backgrounds Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints Ability to assess the effectiveness of PBIS and student improvement plans, and adjust them as necessary Ability to utilize a learning management system to interact with and engage students Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth Qualifications Profile CT State Certification, or certifiability, in secondary education required
