JOB DESCRIPTION
Athletic Facilitator for Middle Schools; (1) Kelly Middle School, (1) Teachers' Memorial Middle School
Position Purpose:
The position shall have responsibility for assisting the Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and Building Principals in the overall management of the Norwich School District Interscholastic Athletic Program and act as the point person within their assigned middle school. Due to the nature of the job, functions will need to be carried out - before school, afterschool, and on weekends as needed.

Essential Functions:
The Building Facilitator of Athletics (Middle School Level) will assist in: supervising the Middle Schools athletic programs in coordination with the Principal, The Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and others, recommending changes to policies and procedures relating to the athletic programs. the development of an annual budget forecast for the upcoming year(s). the development of the interscholastic athletic schedules and official schedules for all contests. the coordination of transportation for all athletic contests. the supervision and support of the athletic coaches. monitoring the district's adherence to the Athletic Code of Conduct. scheduling the supervision and support of all contests. in ensuring that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal laws and regulations, state laws and regulations. Creates materials to publicize athletic and sporting events for the purpose of disseminating information and fostering enhanced awareness among students, staff, and the community in recognizing and supporting the school's athletic programs and attending events. Works with the Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and the Communications & Family Engagement Coordinator for distribution of information to NPS Website and through other communication platforms Maintains records and documents as required and necessary to ensure proper documentation of athletic program activities, events, participation, and related information for the purpose of complying with school policies as well as applicable laws and regulations. Distributes and collects information related to program registrations for athletes Responsible for carrying out all other duties assigned by the Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives and Building Principals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility. Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Google, PowerPoint). Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Experience Successful experience managing or directing the athletic programs of a school district preferred. Successful supervisory experience required. Familiarity with CIAC guidelines. Familiarity with coaching training practices. Coaching experience preferred. Coaching certification required. Understanding of middle school athletic operations CPR/First Aid Certified

Ability to actively demonstrate athletic techniques and drills. Must be able to stand, walk, run, and move quickly across athletic fields or courts for extended periods (up to several hours). Must be able to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching overhead and to the ground. Must be able to observe student performance at varying distances and in varying lighting and weather conditions. Ability to project voice and communicate effectively over noise and across distances. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain). May be required to travel with teams to and from athletic events, including evenings and weekends.
Compensation:
Stipend of $10,000 per year July 1-June 30.
Hours:
Approx. 10-12 hrs/week (Hours will vary depending on whether it is during a season or if it is prior to a season starting or at the completion of a season.) The anticipated schedule of this position is not conducive to assuming an additional coaching position.
