Job Description

Position Title:
Assistant Director, Student Success Time Type:
Full time
Position Summary and Qualifications:
The Assistant Director provides direct outreach and support to transfer and commuting undergraduate students to help them stay on track and succeed. The role coordinates transfer orientation programs, trains peer mentors, and advises the commuter student organization while overseeing engagement in the Commuter Lounge. The Assistant Director also manages outreach to students at key points of transition—including leaves of absence, stop-outs, and withdrawals—and ensures timely follow-up through student success systems. In addition, the position supervises student staff, coordinates surveys and basic data tracking, and offers regular office hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for outreach and support for transfer and commuting undergraduate students to increase retention and persistence to graduation. Coordinate Transfer Student Orientations in August and January, train Transfer Mentors, coordinate National Transfer Student Day activities. Advise the commuting-student organization "Hawks In Flight" and oversee activities and engagement of the Commuter Lounge. Supervise several work-study students who support this work. Coordinate outreach to the students on a Leave of Absence Process Temporary Separations for all University students. Coordinate annual outreach to students who have stopped out of SJU and did not earn their bachelor's degree within 4 years. Actively engage with the Starfish Student Retention Management System, assign and respond to flags and referrals, and perform appropriate follow-up in a timely fashion. Coordinate the Pre-Enrollment and checking in surveys and provide analysis of the data. Conduct exit interviews with undergraduate day students voluntarily withdrawing from the University and communicate student withdrawals to stakeholders and process all Hawk Hill University withdrawals. Have consistent Office hours posted in Starfish for meeting with students. Manage and update the Student Success and Success Center websites.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee Textbook Scholarship Application Review (July and November) Act as a Starfish Student Retention Management System Ambassador to the constituents (students, staff, and faculty)• Participate in the Hawk Ready committee. Serve on the AIM early arrival planning committee. Serve on the Invisible Safety Net Committee (ISN) and campus committees related to undergraduate retention. Write targeted outreach, social media posts, brochures and flyers that connect students with campus resources: probation and warning students, and new transfer students
Support University Programs:
Admitted Student Days, New Student Orientation, Move-in Weekend, and Commencement. Serve as a Rebound and PASS Mentor for students facing academic challenges. Work collaboratively and support efforts within the Success Center to increase retention and persistence to graduation. Act as a Data Security Steward to include: Responsible for the accuracy, security and integrity of data within the area. Create and maintain a secure office environment to protect all information resources within your purview. Establish and enforce sound policies and procedures to manage the information resources assigned to you. May delegate responsibility to the Data Security Officer in order to assist with the day-to-day management of information. Serve in compliance with the University's Data Stewardship Policy statement. The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
(Education/Training and Experience Required) Required Bachelor's degree and two years experience in higher education working directly with students Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with consistent attention to detail. Ability to build rapport and collaborate with diverse constituents both internally and externally. Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph's University. Preferred Master's degree in higher education, counseling or a related field Previous working with higher educations systems (Starfish, Banner) Experience with event planning logistics Demonstrated successful student engagement experience in both one-on-one and group settings. Pay Transparency:
The estimated pay range for this position is $52,000-55,000 annually. The offered salary will be commensurate with work experience and educational background. Notice to
