JOB SUMMARY
This position directs the activities of an assigned academic related department or program; develops strategies to accomplish goals; implements policies and procedures; develops and monitors an assigned budget (or set of budgets); performs professional work within assignment; and supervises assigned employees or student workers. Supports the Principal in ensuring rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum implementation and high-quality teaching practices. Uses student achievement, growth, and postsecondary outcome data to assist with instructional planning, interventions, and continuous improvement. Facilitates professional learning, coaching cycles, and feedback processes to build instructional capacity among staff. Promotes equitable access to academic opportunities and support systems for diverse learners. The Assistant Principal supports the principal in providing instructional, operational, and cultural leadership for a charter high school. This position contributes to improving student academic achievement, graduation outcomes, and postsecondary readiness by assisting with high quality instruction, staff development, school culture, and daily operations. The role supports the implementation of academic programs, dual enrollment pathways, and postsecondary partnerships that expand college access and career readiness. The Assistant Principal helps ensure compliance with charter commitments, district agreements, and applicable federal and state laws while promoting continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS N/A. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides oversight and directs the implementation of activities and operations for an assigned academic department or program, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, student retention, strategic planning, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; implementing overall policy changes; ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; and coordinating and integrating activities between multiple service areas.
Directs staff to include:
prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. Prepares and administers a budget which includes grant budgets; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; and monitors and controls expenditures. Prepares, reviews, and interprets a variety of applications, agreements, forms, records, needs assessments, business correspondence, and reports; makes recommendations based on findings. Performs grant writing and/or administration if applicable. Serves as a liaison to assigned committees or agencies; performs outreach activities. May engage students as part of duties; addresses student issues. May manage related didactic and lab/clinical courses; may provide support for accreditation. Oversees assigned equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. School Operations, Compliance, and Safety Assists with the coordination of instructional, administrative, student support, and safety services to ensure compliance with state standards, charter requirements, and applicable laws. Helps oversee staffing, student services, scheduling, and daily campus operations to maintain a safe, well-organized, student-centered environment. Supports implementation of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act and all related safety, security, and emergency preparedness requirements. Ensures accurate maintenance of student records, attendance reporting, and required state, charter, and district documentation. Personnel Leadership and Organizational Culture Assists in recruiting, supervising, evaluating, and supporting instruction and support staff. Helps establish clear expectations and accountability systems aligned to school goals and student outcomes. Contributes to a positive, inclusive, and professional learning environment that supports staff growth and retention. Postsecondary Partnerships and Dual Enrollment Supports the development and implementation of dual enrollment and postsecondary programming. Assists with master scheduling and course coordination in collaboration with college faculty to ensure alignment and student progress. Helps maintain partnerships with local school districts, colleges, universities, and community stakeholders to expand academic pathways. Fiscal Management and Program Sustainability Assists the Principal with the allocation and management of budgets, instructional materials, supplies, and equipment. Supports the identification and administration of applicable federal and state grants that enhance instructional programs and student services. Special Programs and Student Services Supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of educational programs and services for students with disabilities in compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and applicable laws. Assists with ensuring fidelity in the development and implementation of Educational Plans (EPs), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and Section 504 Plans. Performs other duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master¿s degree in a related field (Some positions may require a higher level of education); four (4) years of management work experience in a related area; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Preferred requirements Three (3) or more years of successful school-based instructional, supervisory, or administrative experience. Demonstrated success supporting instructional improvement initiatives using student performance data.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Certifications or licenses as required for assigned area or program such as embalming certification for Funeral Services; teaching certification for assigned program for Provost Office; respiratory certification for Respiratory Care HC (for example); or others depending on assigned area/program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights and weekends.
