Job Description

Job Summary The Director of Residence Life is a dynamic, experienced, and team-orientedprofessional in atwelve-month salaried position reporting directly to theAssistant Vice President for Student Affairs, with additional reportingresponsibilities to the Vice President for Finance for operational matters.

This role provides leadership for the day-to-day operationsresidence life andcampus housing, including an 835-bed apartment-style community and a 489-bedsuite-style freshman community. TheDirector serves as the primary leader for housingprofessional staff and resident assistants, overseeing community development,marketing,application and reapplication processes, move-in and move-outoperations, and health and safety initiatives. The Director is responsible forsetting departmental goals aligned with the Division of Student Affairs and theinstitution and for ensuring staff success throughsupervision and support. This position requires strong problem-solving skills andsound judgment in addressing student conduct andconflict resolution matters.

The Director serves as an appeal officer as outlined in the Residence HallHandbook and supports fair andconsistent outcomes in student housing concerns. Major Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a memberofthe Student AffairsLeadership Team. Act as a liaison with campus partners includingStudent Accounts, Police, IT, Admissions,FinancialAid, Dining Services, andothers. Develop and manage departmental budgets andlong-term financial planning. Overseehiring, onboarding,training, andsupervision of professional staff and student employees Provide continuous, 24/7 leadership in crisisresponse and coordinatecommunication with key stakeholders. Manage housing operations, including StarRezprocesses and USG-requiredreporting. Interpret andenforce housing policies,procedures, and regulations. Adjudicate student conduct cases and managehousing appeals. Assist AVP for StudentAffairs with studentengagement support, communication, and conflict resolution. Overseeconduct processes using Maxient andserve as astudent conduct officer, investigator, or hearing panelist. Assist and coordinate withResidentialFacilities and Operations Manager toconduct facility and safety inspections of residencehalls and grounds. Coordinateeducational and social programmingthat supports studentdevelopment. Serve on institutional committees and the CARETeam. Participate in on-call rotation for residentialemergencies. Supportadditional initiatives including grantprojects and the campusfood pantry. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledgeand Skills Required Knowledge ofresidence life and housing bestpractices. Budget development and financial managementexpertise. Supervisory and leadershipskills. Understanding of student conduct and studentdevelopment theory. Strong decision-making andproblem-solvingabilities. Effective verbal and written communicationskills. Commitment to student development and success. Proficiencywith relevantsoftware systems. Supervisory Controls The Assistant Vice President for StudentAffairs assignsworkin alignment with divisional goals. Performance is evaluated throughreports and observation of departmentaloperations. Guidelines This position operates in accordance with institutional andsystem policies,including the Academic Catalog,Student Handbook, Student Codeof Conduct, FERPA, Title IX, hazing regulations, and University System ofGeorgia policies. The Director isresponsible for developing and maintainingthe Residence Hall Handbook and training materials. Complexity and Scope ofWork This role includes oversight of housing budgets, operations,and compliance formultiple residential facilities andaffiliated housingpartnerships. The position requires availability for 24-hour emergencyresponse. Contacts Regular interaction occurs with students, families, campuspartners, system representatives,vendors, and the public to provideservices,share information, resolve issues, and support institutional goals. Supervisory and Management Responsibility This position supervises all housing professional staff andstudent employees. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in a related field from anaccredited institution. Minimum ofthree years of supervisoryexperience. Ability to work effectively with diversepopulations both collaboratively and independently. Validdriver's license withacceptable drivingrecord. Availability for evenings and weekends asrequired. Must reside within a 15-minute drive ofcampus. Preferred Qualifications At least three years of experience in studentaffairs or highereducationpreferred. Familiarity with University System of Georgiapolicies preferred. Experience with housing operations and businessfunctions strongly preferred.
