Job Description

Director of Belonging and Community Full-Time | 12-Month Position | Exempt Franklin College seeks an engaging, student-centered professional to serve as the Director of Belonging and Community within the Division of Student Development. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students, this position provides strategic leadership for the Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) by fostering student engagement, promoting a sense of belonging, and creating meaningful opportunities for students to connect with the campus and surrounding community. About the Role The Director of Belonging and Community supports the success, persistence, and graduation of all students, with particular attention to students from historically underrepresented populations, international students, and students who may experience challenges engaging with institutional resources and organizations. The successful candidate will cultivate an inclusive campus environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally. Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the physical space and the work of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion
  • Serve as an advocate for and resource to Franklin College students, especially students from under- represented populations, international students, and students experiencing difficulty engaging with institutional organizations and resources
  • Support student organizations with their programming and initiatives focused on issues related to belonging and community
  • Develop and implement community engagement and volunteer opportunities for individual students and student organizations to learn about and contribute to the needs of the local and surrounding communities
  • Serve as the advisor to CDI-affiliated student organizations
  • Develop and lead student-focused programming related to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Supervise the Assistant Director and CDI student workers
  • Support the success and persistence of students from underrepresented populations, international students, and students identified as having difficulty engaging with institutional organizations and
  • resources
  • Collaborate with institutional departments, participate in community and alumni initiatives, and serve on institutional and community committees as requested
  • Manage budget for the Center for Diversity & Inclusion
  • Other relevant and related duties as needed or assigned Qualifications Education
  • Master's degree required in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • A combination of a bachelor's degree and significant relevant experience may be considered. Experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting college students required.
  • Experience in community engagement, volunteer programming, and/or student support is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success working with and advocating for underrepresented student populations and/or international students is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Experience with event planning and project management.
  • A commitment to fostering belonging and supporting student success in a liberal arts environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities The Director of Belonging and Community reports to the Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students and directly supervises the Assistant Director within the Center for Diversity & Inclusion.
