Job Description

Summary:
The Assistant Director of the LSUS Veterans Resource Center provides support to the Director to ensure that all eligible students are aware of their benefits. This person assists students from various branches of the military, veterans, and military affiliated students. Reports to the VRC Director and is a full-time, unclassified position. This summary is not a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education or veterans' affairs Prior university or higher education experience with processing of student veteran education benefits. Solid project management and organizational skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Attention to detail with strong administrative skills and a commitment to accuracy in data management. Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining professionalism, collegiality, and excellent customer service. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Work with student veterans and their families regarding veterans' education benefits, i.e., new and existing laws governing same, and what veterans' services are available to them through proactive communication Serves as alternate VA School Certifying Official; assists with certifying students and submitting tuition/fees in accordance with institutional policies and procedures Assists VRC director with establishing and maintaining agency and community relationships and networks; participates in Financial Aid/VA outreach activities to include presentations, on and off campus. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Collects, evaluates, and analyzes data and prepares administrative reports on the utilization and effectiveness of support services offered through the Veterans Resource Center. Supervises the student navigator assigned to the VRC Perform additional duties as assigned
