Nichols College Residence Life AreaCoordinator

: Director of Residence Life and Community Standards
JOB SUMMARY
The Area Coordinator (AC) is a live-in, full-time (12 month) professional Student Life staff memberreporting to the Director of Residence Life and Community Standards. The AC assists students in creating a respectful, safe and comfortableliving environment conducive to enhancing personal and academic growth. This position is responsible for all aspects of the Nichols CollegeResidence Life program in an area consisting of 1-4 buildings with approximately 250-350 residents. The AC will be an integral team memberwho is energetic, flexible and appreciates the value of program assessment and evaluation. Area Coordinators are given a partiallyfurnished 1-2 bedroom apartment and are considered an exempt employee, compensated minimally at the exempt rate of pay. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS
Bachelors required: Master's Degree in Student Personnel or related area preferred. Pride inone's work, willingness to contribute to the positive welfare of students and the ability to use one's common sense are a must. Experience in residence life, student engagement, wellness education, or student development. Commitment to inclusive, equitable,and student-centered practice. Effective communication and customer service orientated skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Development Understand the philosophy ofStudent Development and apply theories to practical and everyday residence hall experiences. Be accessible, approachable, andavailable to interact with students and staff daily. Assist staff and students' programming for floors, building and residenceareas. Serve as a role model and maintain a standard of professional conduct with students. Coordinate specific ThemeWeek Activities collaboratively chosen with supervisor and colleagues. Support all Theme Week Activities put on by department. Supervision Supervise 9-14 Resident Assistants/Student Staff, conduct weekly 1:1 and student staff meetings to providesupport and direction for staff. Assist in recruiting, selecting and training RA staff. Assist in planning andimplementing in-service training and provide development activities to promote positive job performance within the student staff. Evaluate staff regularly and hold staff accountable for job expectations. Participate in professional staff training in August,January and throughout the academic year. Counseling/Advising Be sensitive and responsive to students'emotional, personal, behavioral and academic needs; advising and making appropriate referrals. Support and address the health andsafety of residents in medical, psychological, and other crisis/emergency situations while considering the community impact. Makereferrals and work with campus partners, including Health & Counseling Services, Center for Professional and Career Development, DiningServices, Public Safety, etc. Administration (Administrative/Central Office Support): Assist with the opening,everyday functions, and closing of the residence halls.
Process maintenance work orders:
ensure prompt completion, follow-up withstudents to provide updates, maintain open dialogue with Department of Facilities Management for status updates. Maintain CentralOffice hours in the Student Life Suite, supporting administrative functions of Residence Life. Utilize conduct and housingsoftware. Complete a daily round of each building of oversight, followed by prompt input of work orders. Maintain office hours inResidence Hall(s) of oversight. Participate in weekly Residence Life staff meetings. Provide campus wide on-dutycoverage according to a rotating schedule, which does include weekends, and some holidays year-round. Perform administrative tasksas assigned. Meet weekly with supervisor. Assist with the planning and implementation of RA training and on-going staffdevelopment Participate in campus-wide recruitment and selection of student staff. Other duties as assigned Policy Enforcement/Crisis Management Communicate, interpret, and enforce College and residence hall policies andprocedures. Encourage behavior consistent with the Nichols Student Code of Conduct and hold students accountable for their actions. Address negative behavior and vandalism through intentional conversations and community support. Serve as a conductadministrator as needed. Conduct conferences/hearings and administer sanctions appropriately and in a timely manner.
StudentLife Responsibilities:
Serve as a team player in the Division of Student Life, assist with Summer and Fall Orientation,Admissions Open House events, and other Student Life led campus-wide events. Encourage, advise and mentor student involvement inclubs, organizations and other campus life opportunities. Assist with summer housing, as well as summer Camps and Conferences asinstructed by supervisor Participate in regularly scheduled Student Life staff meetings. Serve on assigned departmentaland campus wide committees. Auxiliary Assignment Complete collateral assignments as assigned by supervisor,including housing operations, staff appreciation, departmental marketing, etc.
