Director of Alumni Engagement Washington College United States, Maryland, Chestertown 300 Washington Avenue (Show on map) Jun 11, 2026 Washington College is looking for a dedicated Director of Alumni Engagement to strengthen connections within our alumni community and support the mission of our Advancement Department.
Job Summary:
The Director of Alumni Engagement (the Director) is the champion for alumni at Washington College. The ideal candidate believes deeply in the value of the alumni constituency and upholds alumni interests across all College functions. Strengthening, deepening, and stretching the alumni network for the good of the institution is the bottom line, from 1:1 connections through to how mass communications are managed. Day to day, the Director manages all Alumni Engagement operations of the Advancement Department. This includes supporting strategic alumni engagement across the team to include event coordination, volunteer management, responsibility for the Alumni Board, and collaboration on alumni communications with colleagues. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully manage competing priorities and work independently in support of general departmental goals. Collaboration with the Director of Advancement Communications is paramount to the success of the department. This position runs parallel to the Director of Advancement Communications role, with matching authority and responsibility. Collaboration is expected with the Director of Events is especially important to ensure the most efficient use of staff time and capabilities. Professional presentation and endless patience will be a necessary skill in dealing with alumni of varying demographics and background. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Alumni, and Constituent Engagement, the Director has one direct report
  • a coordinator, with the potential for an additional position to be placed under the Director role.
There is the potential that annual giving responsibilities will fall to one or both direct reports. The Director will be expected to oversee that portion of their work as well. A candidate for this role would potentially take on further responsibilities/opportunities for advancement over time, to include parent and community member engagement.
Job Duties:
Strategic event planning and coordination to support alumni engagement efforts along with management of three annual events to maximum potential
  • Homecoming, Spring Migration, and Coast to Coast Toasts
  • with campus partners.
Coordinate Alumni Programming:
Implement alumni strategies by facilitating events, webinars, networking opportunities, travel and other alumni opportunities.
Priorities include:
Career Center
  • Oversee liaison between our office and the Career Center. Manage alumni participants in Career Center events and support alumni networking events in tandem with Center. Admissions
  • Oversee liaison between Enrollment/Watershed program in engaging alumni and other volunteers around admissions priorities. Student Engagement
  • Oversee partnership with student organizations to facilitate connections with alumni.
Coordination of the Alumni Board including managing communications and board meetings. Champion alumni communications strategy via email and social media outreach with Director of Advancement Communications Manage Advancement volunteers, from volunteer outreach to connecting constituents with meaningful opportunities and following up with appropriate stewardship.
Skills and Qualifications:
College Undergraduate degree. Five (5) years related work experience preferred. Reporting skills, administrative writing skills, Microsoft Office skills, organization, analyzing information, problem solving.
