Department Athletics Job Summary The Assistant Director of Athletic Equipment Services is responsible for operational activities related to athletic equipment and uniforms, such as budgeting (working with the Associate Athletic Director for Operations), purchasing, payment authorization, distribution and inventory management, and maintenance. The Director of Athletic Equipment Services oversees the Manager of Athletic Equipment Services, student and casual employees, and, in partnership with the Manager of Athletic Equipment Services, is responsible for reliable and timely delivery of laundry to support Bowdoin's 31 varsity programs. The Director of Athletic Equipment Services is the primary point of contact for equipment and apparel vendor partners with the athletic department, serves as a member of the athletic department event operations committee, and is an advisor to the athletic department leadership team. The anticipated rate range for this position is $62,600-65,600 (adjusted for a .92 FTE)

A strong working knowledge of computers, in particular familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite and accounting and inventory software; understanding of budgeting and inventory procedures; strong organizational skills; superior communication and customer service skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people in a positive and effective manner. A strong working knowledge of athletics and the nature of college sport seasons. Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate department staff members performing secondary duties, casual, and student employees. Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents 4-7 years of experience in either retail or in an athletic equipment room is required. Management and budgeting experience and experience working with students in a secondary, post-secondary or collegiate environment is preferred. Knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them is preferred. Athletic Equipment Managers' Association (AEMA) certification is preferred. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in this posting to be considered for hire. Standard Work Days and Hours This is a full-time, exempt-level position working 40 hours/48 weeks (0.92 FTE) Hours vary widely based upon sport season and needs of athletic programs. Typically 10:00 am - 6:00 pm with occasional nights and weekends during the academic year. Outside of the academic year hours are typically 9:00 - 3:00 pm with no nights and weekend required.
