Job Description

GIRLS DORMITORY DIRECTOR
Full time salaried dormitory position. Flexible 10-month contract. As part of the residential compensation, dorm directors are provided health insurance, a dorm room/apartment, all meals, internet, and an opportunity to travel on school trips.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Provides leadership for the dormitory staff and students and performs administrative duties pertaining to the residential life curriculum and program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES
  • Will ensure that all aspects of the dormitory are in keeping with WA's mission and operating principles.
  • Will provide dormitory staff evaluation quarterly. Will provide staff development and maintain accountability.
  • Will meet at least once a week with their residential staff. Will meet regularly each week with the Dir. of Res. Life.
  • Will be a role model for both staff and students.
  • Will be an on-going presence in the dormitory.
  • Will maintain regular communication with students, parents, staff, faculty, and administration.
  • Will ensure that the dormitory is supervised at all times and will assist the staff in the performance of their duties. The dormitory director will be responsible for providing reciprocal coverage when arrangements with other staff/subs are not possible.
  • Will be part of the weekly and weekend rotation of duty.
  • Will be responsible for discipline in the dormitory, in collaboration with the Residential Faculty and Residential Life Director.
  • Will be fully involved in each student's academic and personal well-being.
  • Will be responsible for maintaining safety, cleanliness, and building maintenance standards.
  • Will assist the students of their dormitory with travel and vacation plans.
  • Will work with the other dormitory director (s) and Director of Residential Life to provide fine arts, cultural, Maine experiences and wellness activities during each academic quarter.
Included will be inclusion, equity and diversity topics with a goal of engaging the community, both on campus and off campus. A focus on belonging is critical. In addition to the essential responsibilities each dorm director has for his/her dormitory, the dorm directors and the Residential Life Director will divide/share the following responsibilities, for example (list is not exhaustive, but covers some of the many tasks required): Organize and maintain a transportation log for the full residential staff. Be responsible for medical visits-scheduling and transportation. Keep updated lists of drivers for vacation airport runs and town bus. Maintain record-keeping for requests for local off campus and overnight visits. Be responsible for the vacation plans of each student in their dormitories. This responsibility requires the directors to:
  • Distribute and collect vacation information forms
  • Collect itineraries and record information in the central database
  • Assist students with travel plans
  • Issue permission forms to parents and document receipt of required forms
  • Communicate with parents/consultants as needed
  • Arrange WA home/host family stays Organize the mandatory Maine Experiences, Cultural and Belonging Activities, and Fine Arts activities as well as general weekend activities . This responsibility requires the directors to:
  • Research and collect information on events and activities-community service, co/extra curricular, classes, weekends
  • Arrange fees and make reservations
  • Organize transportation
  • Draft memos to students and parents
  • Keep attendance and requirement records
  • Do a quarterly activity report to students, parents, and advisors
  • Chaperone activities
  • (along with Residential Faculty and dorm staff) Arrange Host Families and WA Home Stays for our residential students.
This responsibility requires position to:
  • Recruit host families
  • Maintain records of host family information
  • Assign host families and home stays
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate should possess a valid driver's license, a safe driving record, and certificates in First Aid and CPR.
