The High School Equestrian Coach is responsible for developing and leading the school's equestrian team, including training, competition preparation, and overall program management. This role involves coaching student-athletes in both riding skills and horse care, fostering a positive and competitive environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of both riders and horses. Key Responsibilities:
Coaching and Training:
Develop and implement training programs tailored to the needs and abilities of individual riders and the team as a whole. Instruct students in riding techniques, horse care, and competition strategy. Provide constructive feedback to improve student performance in various equestrian disciplines, such as dressage, show jumping, and evens. Organize and lead regular practice sessions, ensuring the safe and effective use of time and resources. Competition Management:
Prepare the team for local, regional, and national competitions, including selecting riders for events, arranging transportation, and managing logistics. Accompany the team to competitions, providing coaching and support during events. Promote good sportsmanship and represent the school in a professional manner at all times. Horse Care and Management:
Oversee the health, fitness, and well-being of the horses, including coordinating veterinary care, nutrition, and exercise routines. Ensure that all equipment, such as saddles, bridles, and protective gear, is properly maintained and safe for use. Program Administration:
Manage the equestrian program budget, including fundraising, purchasing supplies, and maintaining financial records. Communicate regularly with school administration, parents, and student-athletes regarding schedules, expectations, and team progress. Adhere to all school policies and regulations, including those related to student safety and conduct. Mentorship and Leadership:
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes, promoting discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Provide guidance on balancing academic responsibilities with athletic commitments. Qualifications:
Extensive experience in equestrian sports, including competition experience in one or more disciplines (e.g., dressage, show jumping, events). Previous coaching or teaching experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of horse care, including health, nutrition, and stable management. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with high school students, parents, and school staff. Certification in equestrian coaching or a related field is preferred. First Aid/CPR certification is a plus. Working Conditions:
This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. Requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice and competition schedules. Physical demands include handling horses, lifting equipment, and leading activities that require physical fitness.
