Full Job Description Position:
Athletic Director Reports to: Head of School Position Overview The Director of Athletics at Marshall School reports to the Head of School and works closely with senior leadership, the Middle and Upper School Division Heads, and the Admissions Office. The AD has the opportunity to participate in reaching institutional goals and enhancing student life. The Director of Athletics is responsible for all aspects of the department including hiring, scheduling, supervision of the athletic facilities, and transportation. Primary Responsibilities Engaging, encouraging, and inspiring student participation on the school's athletic teams Hiring, mentoring and evaluating the coaching staff Building a coaching culture that prioritizes safety, character development, and good sportsmanship Communicating information to students and parents in a consistent and collaborative way Engaging with families in a way that inspires positive parent involvement and partnership Overseeing athletic department budget and athletic facilities Managing software systems related to athletics in coordination with business office and technology departments. Representing Marshall on the Mars Lakeview Arena Board, at the local level within the conference, and state level within the MSHSL. Interpreting/overseeing MSHSL regulations including student eligibility and permissible coaching practices both in-season and out-of-season/summer. Fostering a culture of community support and attendance at athletic events Designing and enforcing school expectations of students, staff and patrons Cultivating and maintaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect throughout all levels of athletic engagement Overseeing the scheduling of contests and the personnel needed to host events Guiding coaches, athletic trainers, and all other staff to ensure integrity, consistency, and overall excellence in the athletic program Supervise the athletic trainers and athletic administrative support staff Managing game day operations and traveling to away games Serving as the liaison between the program and the Upper and Middle School Division Heads Ensuring that while students are challenged and stretched in their practices and by their coaches, there is an overall love of the sport that is fostered through positive encouragement and support Working collaboratively with all constituencies including parents, students, colleagues, coaches, neighbors, the facilities department, and many other individuals Supports the efforts of faculty, staff, and volunteers who coach and direct musical performances, theater performances, MSHSL theater and music contests, Math League, Knowledge Bowl, Speech, mountain biking, and trap shooting,etc. Additional Duties Provide a safe and healthy physical and emotional environment for our student-athletes, coaches and spectators. Provide an opportunity for our students to come forward at any time with their suggestions, concerns, feedback, etc. regarding the overall administration of the athletic program. Ensure compliance with the eligibility bylaws of the MSHSL including transfer eligibility of incoming students, coaches education requirements, etc. Ensure age, ability, and gender equitable opportunities for our student-athletes Oversee the registration process of our student-athletes including MSHSL compliance, having a current Sports Qualifying Physical and completing the ImPACT test (our online baseline concussion screening).. Provide assistance to our coaches when necessary regarding parental concerns. Ensure that performance-based and competitive co-curricular and club sport activities are supported in the areas of scheduling, communication, transportation, facilities etc. Qualifications A minimum of a bachelor's degree and at least five plus years of previous experience in coaching and athletic administration C.A.A. certification (Certified Athletic Administrator), through the National Federation of State High Schools, is preferred Availability to work evenings and weekends Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively Effective organizational and detailed-oriented skills A strong understanding of the developmental needs of both middle and high school students and a proven ability to foster positive leadership among student-athletes Prior success at attracting, hiring, and facilitating the professional growth of excellent coaches Familiarity and experience with the college recruitment process as a coach and/or administrator Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere Ability and experience teaching sports-related content in a classroom setting The ability to teach in non-sports related disciplines is a plusSalary Range:
