Position Summary:
The Director of Residence Life and Conduct is responsible for managing all functions within the Offices of Residence Life and Student Conduct. The Director collaborates with various areas on campus, especially with Athletics, Admissions, and Academic Affairs. They are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment, to utilizing restorative practices to foster a sense of community among students. The Director should understand best practices within collegiate residence life and student rights and responsibilities functions. The Director of Residence Life and Conduct is a full-time, optional live-in position who serves as hearing office for all campus conduct cases and schedules/manages hearing panels when necessary. The Director is responsible for the supervision of all Residence Life staff and managing keys, relationships with Facilities Management, and ensuring a positive and enriching residential experience for all of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruit, train, and evaluate all staff members within the Office of Residence Life, including full-time, part-time, graduate staff, and student staff. Responsible for management of the College's room assignment software (currently eRez). May be asked to Chair the College's Student Life Committee. Walk all the residence halls with applicable staff members at least once a month. Ensure engaging spaces in reach residence hall that promote student development, bonding, and academic success. Serve as the primary Conduct Officer on campus and tasked with managing the entire conduct process. Responsible for the policies and procedures related to the Code of Conduct (in the Cat Tracker). Will be required to hear conduct meetings, utilizing a restorative approach to address violations of the Code of Conduct. May serve as Title IX Hearing Officer. Review all Residence Life policies and procedures twice per year with the Vice President for Student Experience and ensure that all operations are well documented. Manage the College's Conduct Case Management software (currently Maxient). Collaborate with College faculty and staff to ensure conduct case outcomes are learning centered. Chair the College's CARE Team. Works with all units with the Student Experience Division in creating an environment that enhances retention and graduation completion. Manage the on-call rotation for Student Experience staff members. Serve in administrative on-call rotation to respond as needed to nighttime or weekend emergencies. Ensure that there is adequate Resident Director (RD) and Resident Assistant (RA) on-call coverage throughout the year. Support the development of department-wide learning outcomes and assessment strategies. This includes collaboration with the Director of Student Engagement to ensure that programming in the residence hall is learning-outcome centered and supports students' holistic development. Manage all Resident Director and Resident Assistant training programs. Manage the annual Resident Director and Resident Assistant evaluation process. Primary point person in funneling all student complaints to the appropriate person. Serve on and/or chair various campus committees as assigned. Attend regional and national professional conferences as deemed necessary by the Vice President for Student Experience and/or President.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related Higher Education degree preferred. 4 years of experience working with college-aged students in related field (graduate experience in higher education is acceptable). Budget management and supervision experience. PC skills including, but not limited to, word processing and spreadsheets, knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Internet and e-mail.
