Job Description
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA). The Area Coordinator is a full-time, live-in professional position requiring residence in an assigned on-campus apartment. As a convenience to the employer, the position is provided a meal plan to support relationship development with students through meals and meetings in campus dining facilities. The Area Coordinator serves as the primary live-in professional staff member responsible for the overall management and leadership of a residential area housing 700 to 1,500 residents. The position directs comprehensive operations spanning staff supervision and development, residential education, community development, crisis management, building administration, student conduct, and hall council advising. The Area Coordinator supervises 20 to 40 Resident Assistants and 1 to 3 Graduate Community Coordinators, exercises independent judgment in the management and referral of student crisis incidents, and functions as the principal point of student contact within the residence halls, requiring substantial evening and weekend availability. Reporting to an Associate Director for Residence Life, the position carries year-round responsibility inclusive of summer operations and departmental or university-wide collateral assignments. Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must already be legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require any immigration sponsorship or support. A master's degree in College Student Personnel, Education, Human Services, or a related field. The position requires outstanding organizational, planning, communication, training, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with students in a residential environment and demonstrated experience in staff supervision and team building.
