The Director overseesthe College's student conduct system, advises the Judicial and Honor Councils, and coordinates campus-wide educationaround the Honor Codeand community standards. In addition, the Director provides case management for students of concern, leads crisisresponse efforts, andworks collaboratively across campus to ensure holistic student support. In partnership with the ExecutiveDirector, the Directorhelps shape the strategic direction, policies, and professional development initiatives for the Office of ResidenceLife. This role providesday-to-day supervision to residence life staff, assumes leadership of departmental operations in the ExecutiveDirector's absence, andcontributes to advancing the mission and values of Salem College.
Position Summary:
TheDirector of Campus and ResidentialAccountability, Community, and Support is a live-in, full-time, 12-month position that serves as a seniormember of the Residence Lifeleadership team and the second-in-command to the Executive Director of Residence Life. The position reportsdirectly to the ExecutiveDirector of Residential Life with a dotted line to the Dean of Students for conduct matters. This positionplays a pivotal role infostering a safe, inclusive, and accountable campus community that supports students' academic and personal success.The Director overseesthe College's student conduct system, advises the Judicial and Honor Councils, and coordinates campus-wide educationaround the Honor Codeand community standards. Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Leadership andAdministration Serve as the deputy leader of the Residence Lifeteam, assuming departmental oversight in the absence of theExecutive Director. Assist the Executive Director with strategicplanning, assessment, and implementation of departmental goalsand initiatives. Demonstrate self-directed management ofdepartmental projects, staff supervision, and crisis response, seekingguidance on a consultative basis when necessary. Supervise,mentor, and evaluate professional Residence Life staff and support theselection, training, and development of Area Coordinators andResident Advisors (RAs). Contribute to the development of policies,procedures, and programming that enhance the residentialstudent experience and promote community well-being. Help managedepartmental budgets, resources, and operational planning toensure effective use of staff and materials. Collaborate oncampus-wide initiatives related to student retention, wellness, andcommunity engagement. Student Conduct and Honor SystemLeadership Oversee the student conductprocess, ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with institutional policies andregulations. Serve as the primary conductofficer for the campus. Advise and support the Judicial Council and HonorCouncil, including training and case coordination. Lead educational efforts related to the Honor Code, including sessions duringNew Student Orientation and Leadership training. Serve asa key participant for the campus-wide Engaging Ethics programs promoting ethicsand character development. Maintain accurate andconfidential conduct records in compliance with FERPA. Developeducational and restorative sanctions that promote learning,self-reflection, and community repair. Analyze and report studentconduct trends to inform prevention strategies and communityeducation efforts. Student Care and Support Providecase management and outreach for studentsexperiencing academic, personal, or behavioral challenges. Serve as a central contactfor student welfare concerns from faculty,staff, and peers. Participate on the Early Alert team to ensure coordinated support andtimely interventions. Buildstrong partnerships with Counseling Services, Health Services, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, andother departments to promote studentwell-being. Crisis Response and On-Call Duties Serve in a professionalon-call rotation,responding to after-hours and weekend emergencies involving residential or campus incidents. Collaborate withResidence Lifestaff, Public Safety, and Counseling Services to manage crises and ensure student safety and follow-up care. Serveas a CampusSecurity Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act, responsible for timely and accurate reporting of campus incidents. Residential Engagement and Collaboration Work closely with Residence Life professional staff and RAs tocreate a culture ofaccountability, belonging, and care within the residence halls. Partner with campus departments to deliverholistic,student-centered programming and engagement opportunities. Serve on institutional committees such as Orientation, EarlyAlert,Retention, and other Student Affairs initiatives. Contribute to campus traditions and events such as Orientation, FamilyWeekend,and Commencement.Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and at least six years ofprogressively responsibleexperience in student conduct, residence life, or related roles. Demonstrated experience supervising anddeveloping professionalresidence life staff. Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in solving complex issues andimplementing new initiatives. Strong understanding of student conduct administration, crisis management, and student casemanagement. Knowledge ofrestorative and educational approaches to student accountability. Excellent communication,organizational, and interpersonalskills. Ability to live on campus and work evenings, weekends, and during emergencies. Valid driver's license andsatisfactory driving record.Preferred Qualifications:
Master'sdegree in Higher Education, Student Affairs,Counseling, or a related field. Experience advising judicial or honor councils. Experience developing educationalprograms on ethics, integrity, or community values. Familiarity with Title IX, Clery Act,and FERPA compliance. Physical Functions While performing the responsibilities of the College -Director of Campus and Residential Accountability,Community, and Support, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths oftime; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds;occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use handsand fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on akeyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computermonitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levelswith or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication;express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word;and work in an office setting.
