Job Description

Instructional Assistant -
Anderson Academy Charter School Location:
Winston-Salem, NC, on-site
Schedule:
10 month position, 1st shift Monday - Friday, with some weekend/evening hours depending upon events/program needs
Your Impact:
As an Instructional Assistant , you won't just be helping out in the classroom—you'll be creating opportunities for students to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. You'll be the steady support beside a teacher, the positive role model students remember, and the calm presence that helps learners feel safe, seen, and inspired. In a trauma-informed, inclusive learning environment, your work will help level the playing field and light the way for student success.
Hiring Range :
$17.50 - $20.00/hour

Ongoing Training Education/Experience/Licensure:
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (Education or related field preferred). Minimum of two (2) years of classroom experience. Familiarity with diverse instructional strategies and differentiated learning preferred. A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.

To succeed as an Instructional Assistant at Anderson Academy, you'll bring a strong mix of interpersonal savvy, classroom support skills, and a passion for education.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written - to engage effectively with students and staff Strong organizational skills to manage tasks, prep materials, and support instruction Creativity and adaptability in responding to diverse learning needs and classroom dynamics Classroom management support to help maintain structure and student engagement Tech proficiency with tools like Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and LMS platforms Empathy and cultural sensitivity to support students from varied backgrounds and life experiences Teamwork and collaboration to work seamlessly with teachers and school staff Problem-solving skills to assist in finding effective solutions to student challenges Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth Trauma-informed mindset with the ability to apply equity and justice principles daily Self-motivation and initiative to actively contribute to a mission-driven school Flexibility and discretion in managing sensitive situations and adapting to change Individualized student support and small group instruction experience Positive energy, creativity, and a great sense of humor (yes, laughter is welcome here!) Ability to stay calm and confident in crisis situations Valid Driver's License required
Job Duties:
Provide small group instruction based on teacher-developed lesson plans Support and engage students from diverse backgrounds and with unique learning needs Create a positive, encouraging, and trauma-informed classroom environment Help maintain accurate student records, attendance, and performance tracking Support teachers with instructional planning and content delivery Collaborate with school staff to ensure consistency and continuity in learning Assist with school events, extracurriculars, and special projects Participate in professional development opportunities Uphold school policies, regulations, and classroom standards Take initiative—and don't be afraid to learn from mistakes along the way! May occasionally be assigned other short-term tasks, related to the job, and appropriate to skills and training
