Full-time and adjunct faculty and clerical and technical staff as assigned Basic Function:
The Dean of Faculty serves as a key academic leader responsible for faculty affairs, instructional quality, and faculty development. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of Faculty provides leadership for teaching excellence, instructional assessment, curriculum support, and academic innovation. The position fosters a culture of continuous improvement, student success, and shared governance within a comprehensive community college environment. Major Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, supervision, support, and evaluation for full-time and adjunct faculty. Coordinate faculty recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, evaluation, promotion, tenure, and reappointment processes. Develop and facilitate new faculty and adjunct orientations. Conduct classroom observations that support instructional excellence and provide constructive, meaningful feedback to faculty that promotes professional growth and student success. Promote excellence in teaching, student engagement, and innovative instructional practices. Collaborate with institutional stakeholders on academic and operational matters. Support faculty in the design and delivery of in-person, online, hybrid, and HyFlex instruction. Coordinate professional development opportunities, including workshops, peer mentoring, and instructional support initiatives. Support curriculum development, review, revision, and implementation processes. Assist with academic program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and accreditation activities. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, SUNY requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations. Collaborate with academic departments to review enrollment trends, instructional efficiency, and course scheduling in support of student access and enrollment goals. Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing and Communications to support student recruitment and academic program marketing efforts. Support data-informed decision-making related to academic planning and instructional effectiveness. Assist with development and oversight of academic and instructional budgets. Represent Academic Affairs on institutional committees, community partnerships, and college initiatives as assigned. Promote a collegial academic culture grounded in shared governance, accountability, and continuous improvement. Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements:
Minimum Experience and Educational Background:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an academic discipline. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible higher education leadership experience, including academic experience at an institution other than the candidate's current institution. Full-time teaching experience at the postsecondary level, including achievement of tenure. Demonstrated experience teaching online and utilizing learning management systems to support student success. Demonstrated experience supporting faculty development, instructional effectiveness, or academic administration. Experience conducting classroom observations and providing formative feedback to full-time and adjunct faculty. Demonstrated success working within a shared governance environment and building collaborative relationships with faculty governance bodies, academic leadership, and institutional stakeholders. Strong understanding of accreditation standards, student learning outcomes assessment, and data-informed decision-making. Demonstrated record of integrity and sound professional judgment, including the ability to make transparent and fair decisions in complex and confidential situations. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Experience and Educational Background:
Earned doctorate in an academic discipline from an accredited institution. Experience with faculty evaluation and collective bargaining environments. Experience leading teaching and learning initiatives, instructional technology integration, or online learning initiatives. Experience leading accreditation, assessment, and academic program review processes. Experience supporting enrollment management strategies and academic scheduling. Experience working within a public higher education system, preferably a community college. Additional Information:
