Professional Position Summary:
This position will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and assessing a wide range of student engagement initiatives designed to support first-generation college students and other students connected to Access & Opportunity Programs ( AOP ). The Coordinator leads the planning and implementation of First-Generation College Student Week and assists in developing First-Generation Orientation programming in partnership with campus departments and community stakeholders. The position creates and facilitates year-round programming, workshops, outreach campaigns, and events that foster student belonging, identity development, leadership, and academic engagement, particularly for students who may not already be connected to structured support programs. The Coordinator designs engagement opportunities that connect students to campus resources and support services, including the Accessibility Resources Office ( ARO ), Advancing Completion through Engagement ( ACE ), Educational Opportunity Program ( EOP ), TRIO Student Support Services ( SSS ), and the Cardinal Cupboard. Additional responsibilities include supporting programming within Living-Learning Communities, promoting awareness of basic needs and food security resources, and collaborating with offices such as Community Living, Community Development, and Career Development to align student engagement efforts with institutional retention and student success goals. The role also includes teaching and/or co-teaching engagement-focused courses such as first-year experience, student success, or leadership development courses that encourage campus involvement, personal growth, and student persistence. The Coordinator tracks participation and engagement data, assists with program assessment and continuous improvement efforts, prepares reports related to student engagement outcomes, and participates in campus-wide committees and initiatives that support student retention, equity, and belonging. Through independent judgment, collaboration, and strategic planning, the Coordinator helps create an inclusive and supportive campus environment that enhances the overall student experience for first-generation and underserved student populations.
