Job Description
The Resident Mentor (RM) will serve as an advisor/mentor for recent high school graduates participating in the PLA Summer Program. These students are working to develop leadership skills in an academic/educational setting while experiencing college life firsthand, including classes, unstructured free time, seminars, and planned activities.

Supervise students during courses and seminars, in the residence halls, and on weekend trips. Foster and encourage relationships among the students and between yourself and the students. Assist in the transition from high school to college life. Create an environment conducive to learning and understanding. Be aware of and report any situations that may be developing and provide responsible, creative solutions to them. Plan additional daily and weekend events, and inform PLA staff of all happenings in the halls.University and Hall Policies:
Understand, explain, support, abide by, and consistently enforce all Residence Hall and University policies.Hall Maintenance:
Regularly check assigned areas for damages, needed repairs, and custodial concerns. Appropriately report any maintenance/custodial issues.Program Assistance:
Aid in facilitating programs, activities, and courses as requested by the PLA office.Program Management:
Attend regular meetings with PLA staff. Other duties as determined by the PLA staff. Applicants must be a Sidney A. Ribeau President's Leadership Academy (PLA) scholar in good standing and must have completed their first year. Previous relevant experience (RA, camp counselor, etc.) is preferred, but not essential. Applicant should be responsible, dependable, and of high ethical character. Applicants must reside full-time in the hall to which they are assigned. Applicant must be available for the full term of contract, as well as for training, meetings, on-call hours in the evenings, weekends, and activities prior to and after the arrival of the students. Other employment/enrollment in classes may be negotiable; however, preference will be given to those with no other conflicts. Participation in weekend and evening events is mandatory.Compensation:
$1,200 total stipend, paid in bi-weekly installments over the duration of the role. Compensation also includes housing, meals, and tickets for weekend events. Applicants must be a Sidney A.
