Salary $1,000.00 Weekly Location Main Campus, Coos Bay, OR Job Type Temp•Special Project Job Number 2025-00126 Department TRiO Division Student Services Opening Date 05/07/2026 Closing Date 6/7/2026 11:59 PM Pacific FLSA Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit NA Primary Purpose Upward Bound is now accepting applications for Residential Mentors for the 2026 summer session, for the male and female residence halls. Upward Bound is a federally grant-funded college preparation program for students in grades 9-12. Our goal is to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary to succeed in post-secondary education. During the summer academy, students live in Southwestern Oregon CC housing and participate in experiential learning activities and community service projects. Residential Mentors serve as role models and enforcers of program policy and are responsible for developing evening activities. They must work as a team to maintain a safe living and learning environment for program participants. Residential Mentors are required to live in the residence hall suite with the students and are assigned their own private rooms. Residential Mentors are expected to provide direct supervision and to enforce all summer academy handbook guidelines. Mentors must possess the ability to manage student behavior appropriately and demonstrate proactive safety measures. Program is June 21st•June 25th, 2026 (Positions are summer appointments only. This is a temporary position) Description of Essential Functions Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising youth in a consistent, equitable manner in a variety of structured and unstructured environments; facilitating activities; attending all meals and student outings; completing documentation and reports as assigned; maintaining a positive outlook and providing motivation; being sensitive to diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, lifestyle and other differences among students and staff; monitoring study halls. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of a minimum of sixty (60) hours of college credit by June 2026 is preferred. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must possess excellent time management skills, leadership experience, confidence, maturity, high energy, good communication skills and a positive attitude. Valid drivers license or ability to obtain one if driving is assigned as a duty as well as the ability to meet the insurability requirements of the college insurance provider. Driving if assigned includes a fifteen (15) passenger van. A background check including fingerprinting and current First Aid/CPR certification is required, paid for by SWOCC upon an offer of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Individuals with experience facilitating student groups and who have residential life supervisory experience.
