The Reading Science Center is a hands-on science museum for children. Our mission is to foster a love of science through exciting and experiential STEM education for the Greater Reading community, especially our youth.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Programming provides direction and guidance for the Reading Science Center's education staff, and as such, acts as a model educator in classrooms. This position supervises programming throughout the week to ensure quality and consistency across the education staff, and also acts as a first point of substitution in the classroom if needed. The position is responsible for scheduling field trips and communicating with organizers. This includes responding to inquiries, confirming dates/times, sending reminders, and following up with surveys. This position is also responsible for generating, sending, and following up on invoices for educational programming. The position also includes tracking, purchasing, and helping to prep the inventory of supplies and materials for scheduled educational programs. Essential Functions Work up to 20 hours per week on-site as needed. Act as the lead educator on the museum premises and coach other educators on how to present science lessons in ways that reflect our goals and values. Act as museum docent when needed and model active inquiry with student visitors. Maintain a welcoming and safe environment throughout the museum. Respond to inquiries from schools and community organizations to schedule educational programming. Generate and track invoices for educational programming. Strategize ways to increase educational programming outreach. Assist Director of Educational Programming in resource acquisition, tracking supplies, and prepping materials for educational programming. Assist Director of Educational Programming in designing and researching science lessons. Act as floor supervisor when a senior manager is not present. Model commitment to science and education. Model ability to articulate science concepts. Availability to work one Saturday a month.

- preferred to best serve Reading's diverse community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. At least 1 year of teaching or program coordination experience. At least 1 year supervisory experience. Prior experience working with youth education or community outreach programs. Own transportation strongly preferred (for outreach programming).
Clearances:
