School of Education Dean, School of Education Southern Wesleyan University Position Summary:
The Dean of the School of Education at Southern Wesleyan University serves as the strategic and academic leader of the University's School of Education. As such, the Dean of the School of Education plays a critical role in developing and maintaining academic programs supporting the liberal arts mission of the University. The Dean of the School of Education works closely with and advises the provost in all matters pertaining to the effectiveness of the School of Education, including academic goals and outcomes; financial goals, budgets, and advancement goals; faculty hiring, development, and retention; student recruitment and retention; and all matters related to accreditation of programs within the School of Education.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Dean of the School of Education will have the following responsibilities: Serve as the chief planning officer in the School of Education and assists the provost in preparing strategic academic plans and budgets for all programs and degrees within the School of Education. Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of all academic programs within the School of Education and work with the provost to pursue continuous quality improvement of programs considering all relevant assessment data. Work closely with the provost to develop new academic programs within the School of Education, alter existing academic programs within the School of Education, or recommend closure of academic programs within the School of Education. Serve as the primary financial planning officer for the School of Education by preparing and monitoring budgets for all academic programs within the School of Education. Recommend to the provost employment, promotion, reappointment, dismissal, sabbatical leave, leaves of absence, or any other personnel matter pertaining to the faculty of the School of Education (consistent with the policies contained in the Faculty Handbook). Assists with the preparation of all national, state, regional, and programmatic accreditation materials, and work closely with the provost in ensuring compliance with all relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements. Develop, implement, and maintain compliance with all necessary academic policies and procedures (i.e., faculty loads, approval of overloads, approval of directed studies, grade changes and appeals, etc.). Ensure effective coordination of academic programs with other schools by working closely with other deans and departments of the University and by working closely with the Registrar's office to ensure timely and effective scheduling of all classes. Represent the School of Education to all constituents (internal and external) and represents the School of Education on appropriate councils and committees (as further defined in the University's Faculty Handbook). Teaching Responsibilities The Dean of the School of Education may have some limited teaching responsibilities, as directed by the provost on an annual basis, and consistent with other relevant requirements (i.e., credentialing), which may include: Teaching courses in the undergraduate education programs (in any modality). Teaching courses in graduate programs (in any modality). Teaching assignments will be determined on need and will not be assigned by the provost without consultation with the Dean of the School of Education.

Capable of inspiring a shared vision for the School of Education among internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated record of excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines while exercising sound judgment. Demonstrates the ability to make well-informed decisions, solve problems and coordinate a broad range and volume of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints. Highly organized and able to attend to detail. Qualifications Earned Doctorate in a discipline related to the School of Education, or in Higher Education administration. Prior experience as a full-time faculty member, and/or administrator at another institution of higher learning, or at Southern Wesleyan University. Experience with formal evaluation, tenure, and promotion processes in higher education. Experience as an administrator with supervisory responsibility and budget oversight at the level of department chair or equivalent at the University level. Record of scholarship, teaching, and university service. Demonstrated commitment to integration of faith and learning.

Physical/Environmental Requirements. Visual acuity necessary to use a desktop computer and to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Requires ability to sit for periods of time in an interior office environment. May require infrequent lifting of objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally items up to 20 pounds. May include infrequent travel or work outside of regular work schedule for special events or travel. Pre-employment Screening .
