ABOUT THE ROLE
Trident United Way is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Legacy Giving & Endowment Officer to lead the vision, growth, and execution of the organization's planned giving and endowment efforts. This fundraising professional will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to secure deferred, complex, and asset-based gifts while growing the long-term sustainability of TUW's endowment resources. The ideal candidate brings experience in planned giving and/or endowment programs, an understanding of charitable estate planning vehicles, and the ability to think strategically about donor engagement, organizational sustainability, and legacy philanthropy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Planned Giving Program Leadership In partnership with the VP of Individual Philanthropy and SVP of Individual Philanthropy, create and implement a strategic plan to expand the planned giving program, engaging donors to support the organization through various planned giving vehicles. Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with prospective planned giving donors, providing guidance and support through the giving process. Partner with appropriate organizations to establish needed infrastructure including but not limited to United Way Worldwide, United Way NEXT, and Coastal Community Foundation. Develop and manage a portfolio of planned giving and endowment prospects, utilizing data, donor insights, and relationship strategies to increase legacy commitments and long-term philanthropic investment. Design and implement moves management strategies for planned giving prospects and legacy donors. Partner with the Individual Philanthropy team to identify blended gift opportunities, including current and deferred giving strategies. Endowment Strategy & Growth Support the development and implementation of strategies to grow and sustain TUW's endowment assets and legacy giving pipeline. Collaborate with Finance, Advancement leadership, and external partners to ensure effective stewardship, reporting, and communication regarding endowment performance and impact. Develop donor-facing materials and case statements that communicate the long-term community impact of endowed and legacy gifts. In partnership with the VP of Individual Philanthropy and SVP of Individual Philanthropy, establish measurable annual goals related to planned gift commitments, donor engagement, pipeline growth, legacy society participation, and endowment development. Committee Recruitment & Management Recruit, train, and manage a dedicated Planned Giving Committee comprised of influential community members and experts in philanthropy, finance, and estate planning. Collaborate with the committee to drive initiatives, enhance outreach efforts, and expand the planned giving network. Campaign Integration Work closely with the Advancement team to integrate planned giving opportunities into the capital campaign framework and future fundraising initiatives. Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with internal teams, including Advancement, Finance, and Marketing & Communications, to align planned giving strategies with organizational objectives. Develop and execute effective communication plans to promote planned giving opportunities and endowment impact to stakeholders, donors, and the community. Partner with other members of the Advancement Team to incorporate planned gift conversations into donor relationships. Build and maintain relationships with attorneys, financial advisors, estate planners, and other professional advisors to strengthen community awareness and support for planned giving opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree required from accredited college or university. Minimum of 4 years of progressive fundraising experience, including experience in planned giving, endowment giving, major gifts, or philanthropic advising. Expertise in donor stewardship and relationship management. Knowledge of or interest in current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of estate planning tools and charitable tax law. Demonstrated experience implementing planned giving best practices and securing planned gifts. Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability to build long-term fundraising strategies. Experience working with donors on estate gifts, beneficiary designations, charitable trusts, IRA charitable strategies, or other planned giving vehicles preferred. SKILLS Ability to engage confidently with professional advisors, senior volunteers, and high-capacity donors. Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills. Experience developing or growing endowment and/or legacy giving programs preferred. Proven track record in building and managing committees preferred.
CFRE, CAP
®, CSPG, or planned giving-related certification preferred.
