Posting Text The SD School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has an immediate opening for a
Director of Residential Services Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Education or Social Science field preferred; Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred; Supervisory experience preferred. This is a working leadership position requiring initiative, follow-through, staff supervision, problem-solving, and accountability.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation of residential staff. Develop staff schedules and ensure adequate program coverage.
Facilitate staff meetings and ongoing professional development. Supervise the residential program serving students who are blind or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities.
Oversee residential programming, apartment-based independent living instruction, and transition-related activities. Coordinate recreation, leisure, and community-based activities. Support student development through positive behavior supports, social-emotional growth, and independent living skill instruction.
Monitor student documentation, reports, data collection, and residential records.
Collaborate with educational and related service staff to promote student success.
Foster a positive, collaborative residential team culture.
Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive residential environment.
Demonstrate sound judgment and make independent decisions consistent with school policies and procedures.
Ability to:

Respond effectively to student behavioral, medical, and emergency situations. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, eleven-month position.
Incumbent will be required to undergo a background investigation before employment begins. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.
