) Number of Vacancies 1 Location Rio Grande Valley, Texas Department College of Health Professions FTE 1.0 FLSA Exempt Scope of Job The Vice Dean serves as a senior academic administrator responsible for supporting the Dean in providing strategic leadership, academic oversight, and operational management for the College of Health Professions. This position plays a critical role in advancing the college's mission of excellence in education, research, clinical practice, and community engagement across health professions programs. Description of Duties Serves as a senior academic administrator responsible for supporting the Dean in providing strategic leadership, academic oversight, and operational management for the College of Health Professions. Supports faculty recruitment, development, and retention initiatives. This includes providing support to the promotion and tenure processes, coordinating faculty development programs, and fostering a culture of scholarly productivity and teaching excellence. Serves as a mentor to junior faculty and assists in resolving faculty concerns. Participates in strategic planning, budget development, and resource allocation decisions for the college. Identifies opportunities for growth, developing new initiatives, and ensuring efficient use of college resources to support program priorities. Provides oversight of academic programs, curriculum development, and program assessment across multiple health professions disciplines. Collaborates with department chairs and program directors to ensure program quality, accreditation compliance, and continuous improvement. Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in teaching and learning. Supports student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives. Ensures programs maintain compliance with institutional, professional, and specialized accreditation standards. This includes coordinating accreditation visits, self-studies, and ongoing quality assurance processes. Cultivates and maintains relationships with clinical partners, healthcare organizations, and community stakeholders to support experiential learning opportunities, research collaborations, and workforce development initiatives. Serves as acting Dean in the Dean's absence, represents the college on university committees, and performs other administrative duties as assigned. Responsible for coordinating the college's communication including website and social media. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor. Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff. Required Education Doctorate (PhD, EdD, DNP, or equivalent terminal degree) in a health professions field or related discipline. Preferred Education N/A Licenses/Certifications None. Required Experience Seven (7) years of progressively responsible academic and administrative experience in higher education, including demonstrated leadership in health professions education, evidence of successful teaching, scholarship, and service. Preferred Experience Prior experience as a department chair, program director, or associate/assistant dean is highly preferred in a higher education setting. Equipment Use of standard office equipment. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Travel a minimum of once per week to non-home campus. Other Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse constituencies. Financial acumen and experience with budget management are essential. Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Knowledge of accreditation standards, curriculum design, and assessment methodologies is required, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex academic environment. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships across a variety of constituencies. Must exhibit understanding of contemporary issues in health professions education.
