Job Description:
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) College of Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. This is a 9-month appointment with an additional 1 month during the summer for MSW program administration. In addition to these required 10 months total, the potential for other summer employment opportunities (e.g., teaching, grants, etc.) exist. The ideal applicant will be a licensed social worker (LMSW, LCSW, or LCSW-S) with a doctorate (preferably PhD or DSW) in social work or a related field. Job responsibilities include Online MSW Program administration, teaching, potential opportunities for some scholarly activity, and service to the program, college, university, community, and profession. This position is located onsite at UTEP with an anticipated appointment date of September 1, 2026. The ideal candidate will excel at incorporating best educational and administrative practices in program coordination, teaching, and social work practice and/or service. The successful candidate will have an interest in the cultural aspects of the border, embracing opportunities to work with underserved groups and to collaborate on initiatives regarding border health and health disparities. This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to contribute to a social work department with established bachelor's (BSW), and both in-person and online master's (MSW) programs in social work. Multiple scholarly opportunities (e.g., community engaged research, presentations, publications) are available in community and clinical settings on both sides of the U.S
  • Mexico border.
Teaching excellence and current scholarship will determine appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor level.
Job Requirements:
1) PhD in Social Work, DSW, or earned doctorate in a closely related field (all-but-dissertation doctoral candidates with an anticipated completion date no later than Summer 2026 will also be considered); 2) an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program; 3) at least two years of program administration experience; 4) evidence of teaching excellence in a higher education institution; 5) experience with CSWE accreditation and/or reaffirmation processes; 6) a minimum of 2 years of post-MSW social work practice experience; 7) Texas licensed or license-eligible as an LMSW or LCSW; 8) strong record of participation in professional organizations and community outreach to human service organizations; 9) the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; and 10) the ability to work independently and coordinate administrative and teaching duties with colleagues. Preferred qualifications : Texas licensed or license-eligible as an LCSW-S; Five or more years of post-MSW social work practice experience; the potential to coordinate an innovative Online MSW Program and teach in a binational, bilingual, and increasingly national environment; and bilingual in English and Spanish.
